- Build quality, engine, auto transmission seems to read minds, great handling, sound system, seats
- iDrive can be slow at times
After 6 months of ownership, this car still makes me smile every time I get in for a drive. The handling is amazing for a car this size, the 6cyl engine has plenty of kick and gives good mileage, and on a recent 1000-mile trip the seats proved to be extremely comfortable. Everything feels solid and well put together, the interior is very quiet, a nice place to be especially with the Logic7 sound system.
Have extensively driven other cars in this segment (Mercedes E320, Lexus GS300, Lexus GS430) and the 5er by far has been the most enjoyable....read morehide

- Speed, Quickness, Style
- Drifts in windy conditions
Pure satisfaction. Handles better than any luxury vehicle I've driven (Benz, Lexus). Tends to drift in windy conditions at normal speeds (75mph - 90mph). Other than that, "PDP" (pure driving pleasure).

- Excellent handling
I bought this car about a year ago.Within these times I found this car very comfortable and very fuel economy compare with other same high class generation cars like Audi A6,Lexus GS430 and Mercedes E500. In addition, brake system is amazing. All in all I loved this car and I am not going to change it for a long time....read morehide

- build quality, handling, fuel economy
- i-drive, no gps standard, price.
I love this car every time I drive it. Fast, efficient, excellent front seats (with the sport package). Handles like a sports car.......better then many sports cars!
Solidly built...9 months old, 14,000 miles and absolutely nothing had gone wrong. (try that with a Benz or Audi)
Very good fuel comsumption.......S.F.-L.A.= 27.0 mpg at speeds between 75-90 mph.
The lack of standard equipment means it's all about the options...and it really drives up the price.
I'm very happy with my first BMW and would highly recommend one to anyone who enjoys driving like I do.

- SMOOTH RIDE, HANDLING, SPEED, COMFORT, TECH TOYS.
- CUP HOLDERS...Bluetooth is sketchy
If you are reading this you are probably interested in buying a 5 series or at least curious about one.
WARNING: this is not a tech review. You want numbers.... go look at the stat sheet. This is a review of how a REAL Bmw 5 series owner feels about the car.
I just recently bought a new 530i. It is my first car out of college and here is a LEGIT review of the car. I paid alot for the car and demanded alot in return, and to sum it up, it was worth the money.
I test drove a fleet of cars. BMW 335i coupe, BMW 328ci convertible, Infiniti M35, Infiniti G35, Mercedes E class, Mercedes clk, lexus 350, etc.
All of those cars I have listed are great driving machines. But, if you want to pay over 40k for a car, why not go the extra mile. A sophisticated combination of speed, handling, comfort, and prestige? When I drive my 530i around I am recognized. The car does not define me as a person but adds onto my character. It meets my every mood. When I feel sporty, I put it in manual and let it rip.... when I feel relaxed, I put it on cruise control and let it glide on the road....when I feel nice, I chauffer my friends around in this luxorious limo.
The tech toys are top notch. I have comfort access, navigation, logic 7, sirius radio, bluetooth, etc. All of them minus the bluetooth work to perfection. They do not fall behind compared to Japanese luxury cars. The ride and handling is self explanatory. It is true... BMW is the Ultimate in Driving. No need for me to ellaborate. When you drive the car, you are the car. I can beat any car my size off the line and can make a turn off the freeway at 85 mph. I don't reccommend it but you can do it. Millions of people throughout the history of BMW do not lie. Other cars may be more comfy, tech savvy, better looking, cheaper, BUT BMW is the best car to drive. Hands down. Sitting here reading and comparing torque and horsepower do not justify how a car drives. YOU have to go drive a BMW to understand a BMW. Trust, I have test drove them all! I am stingy with my money and wanted to make the rigth decision!
In conclusion, I love my car. It has its faults but what car doesn't? Yeah, the bluetooth can be better, the cup holders are useless (the ones in the back are nice though), the storage can be better up front, etc. The car is not perfect but is perfect for me. If you are young and ambitious, but don't want a coupe (my head hits the ceiling in coupes, just to show you the space inside, i'm only 5'10), but still want the feeling of adventure and sexy without giving away the luxury, this car is for you! It is not a old mans car. I am 22 years old. My windows are tinted and I plan to get a nice exhaust and maybe a aerodynamic kit. It is the car for young, successful, ambitious, people....read morehide

- A drivers car
- in need of a design update, transmission
I had a 2004 530i and replaced it with an X5, which I know is not in the same class and therefore not comparable. But I do know what I miss about the 5 series. The performance and handling was exceptional. the 530 was ample power...and then some. I never got bored driving this. Transmission was a little funky when driving on hills. Had BMW updated the design for 2007...just a little to show some progression in 3 years, I might have gone for another one....read morehide

- Driving this car puts a smile on my face
- BMW's free maintenance intervals too long.
This cars goes where you steer it, when you steer it at any speed under almost any conditions. Off the line acceleration not the best. but step on the gas at 60-mph and over and this vehicle just does not run out of breath and has no competition in its class. The sport package with active rear suspension and sport seats makes expressway ramps like a day at the track. The huge anti-lock brakes show no mercy to any emergency.
My wife and I both test-drove the Lexus at a Lexus promotional event but found it to be an old man's car (like a living room on wheels).
We took Spartanburg delivery and would highly recomend taking advantage of BMW's hospitality, and by the way drive the car home on the Skyline Drive, it's a blast.
Vista Motors of Coconut Creek is up there with the best.
Also BMW is a great car company to deal with. We did have minor issues with both our BMW's and we were treated by the factory with 1st class effective personal resolutions.
Did I forget ?. great city/hwy milage.
Bite the bullet buy one, you wont regret.......read morehide

- respectful performance; spacious, comfortable and beautiful interior design, and exterior design
I'm an army soldier station in germany and finally I have my brand new 530i. This car is amazing in everything besides the price. I raced it against a 2006 ford mustang cobra on the authoban (there is not speed limit in germany) from mannheim to frankfurt; normally takes 35-40mins. I got in frankfurt in 37 mins and the mustang took 43 mins. this's a shame for v8 american cars against a line6 europe car. When you drive a 530i no one we'll give you headache on the authoban as soon they see the eyesbrow headlights camig they will move over, every european car respect a 530i. This car is just off the chain, you will be so happy and greatful to have it that you will not mind to pay for....read morehide

- sport package very powerful and well balance. avg 26.7 after 3500 miles.
- idrive will drive you crazy. false tire pressure warning on 2nd day. navigation has many problems.
BMW , DVD navigation system needs improvements. Slow response
at intersections. putting data into address book takes time compare to other systems in the market. No touch screen .
Sirius satellite radio lost signal frequently especially under bridges and between highrise buildings.
idrive: even changing mode for direction of air flow, changing radio stations, take many steps to do.
I notice a few millisecond lag in pick up but on sport mode it disappears.
Comfort access key is very convinient but after shutting down the engine, you need to press lock button to shut down the electrical system....read morehide
