- Looks, Space, BMW reliability and friends envy
- Used to 7 series so ride takes a little getting used to
What a blast !!..Just completed my 1200 miles and after a free service can open up and show other drivers what the ass of my M5 looks like in fast motion.
Can't help notice most of the negative reviews are from those who don't own an M5 or have had limited experience.
This car cannot be driven well without practice. The longer I drive the better it gets. From sedate shopping trips to spine tingling adrenaline rides this car EXCELLS !!
Have to smile a little at our USA friends complaining at the price. Its a sobering thought that I have just forked out the equivalent of one hundred and fifty five thousand bucks for my car in the UK. What a disgrace that you lucky guys stateside can pick one up one at half the price I paid and to make matters worse I have to fill this thirsty gal up at 12 dollars a gallon. I gotta move over there. !
If you can pony up the dough....BUY ONE !!!...read morehide

- Faster than any car sub$100k except for the vett. Luxury. Active Seats
- Small Gas Tank - Poor Gas Mileage - Drinks Oil
First, I own this car and drive it everyday. It is the fastest car on the road for less than $100k except for the Vett. I've driven a lot of cars and this is one of my favorites. You can run to the market or get on the highway and do 130 mph in a blink of an eye.
The active seats are a must. Always surprises the passengers. The rest of the interior is impeccable as BMW does not disappoint. The leather work is incredible and I have the wood trim which I feel dress the car up.
Then you have the M button. Push that and bang, 500 hp, no traction control and the suspension stiffens. It's like having a NO2 button but better as it transforms your everyday Sudan into a super car!
Yes, the car has some cons, there's only a 18 gallon gas tank and the car averages 12 mpg/15 mpg hwy. So you can't drive from LA to Las Vegas on one tank. And the car drinks about 1 qt of oil every 2k miles. That's it! That's the cons for this car.
The M5 is a wolf in sheeps cloths. It's fast, comfortable and great looking. I'd recommend this car to anyone who's looking and if it's out of your budget but you have an opportunity to drive one. Have some fun. Really, this car is one of the best on the road today....read morehide

Just got my new 2007 saphire black full manual transmission M5 six days ago. While driving home from the dealership the check engine light went on. Dealer first said it was normal and not to worry but then called back and sent someone to get the car. They have now had the car for five days and cannot figure out what's wrong. They downlaoded new software and replaced a sensor, but to no avail. Germany is shut down for the holidays and no one knows what to do. I'm devastated and unsure whether I've gotten a lemmon. Is this a common occurance or just bad luck....read morehide

- Amazing performance, Stealthy good looks, Incrediable technology
- Gas tank is to small, BMW service centers in seattle stink, small hints of cheapness inside.
I love our M5, my hubby and I one. (Well actually it was suppose to be for both of us, he just hasn't got it from my death grip.) The car is incredible on all accounts. It's handling almost on par with your Ferrari or Lambo's its performance is better or equal to all Ferrari or Lambo's with the sensibility of a large sedan. What more could you want. I absolutely love I-drive I think everyone loathes it because they attempt using it for a whole two hours and then they write a review. Give it a week and you are zipping around the menus like second nature. This is my 3rd BMW and by far the best. if you haven't driven one yet, you need to....read morehide

- 500 bhp V-10, Handling, Seats
- Intown driving
Tomorrow she goes in for her 1200 mile breakin service and I can't wait to get her back. Then I can really pound on the M button that kicks her up to 500 hourse and engages all sport settings all in a split second. The looks have grown on me over the last month, I now think the car looks understated but threatening, compared to the sissy good looks of the CLS. Seats are the best I've ever felt and I'm coming out of an S55 AMG. The engine speaks for itself, it redlines at like 8000rpm and its huge, power seems endless. Handling is just amazing for a sedan, I can't concieve of a 4000 pound car with a back seat handling any better. SMG this is the tricky part, the more you drive the car the better you can take advantage of the 11 different shifting modes. Ie. say you're pulling onto a multilane Blvd. from Automatic mode set at a shift speed of 3 out of 5. Basically a tame city setting and car switches lane and starts heading right for your rear bumper. The overkill option is to hit the M button and leave everyone in the dust. A more civilized option is to tap shifter right, hit arrow button to speed shift to 5 or 6 (out of a possible 6) take off, clear the traffic and tap shifter back left and go about your merry way. These options can't be mastered in a test drive consequently people don't quite understand a transmition that is not completely manual and not completely automatic either. You have to be a speed freak with technical savie, hand eye coordination and patience....read morehide

- Very nice sedan, maybe the best handling and fastest around
- It's a bit of not the best of either world.
For a sedan this is a very high performance and good handling car. For a sports car it has way more room than anything else you could buy. But if you look at it the other way round, it doesn't come out nearly so well. There are many roomier and more comfortable sedans available (BMW's own 7 series for example). There are also many better performing sports cars (the list is very long). So in the end this is a car for someone who has a fantasy of driving around in a fairly ordinary looking sedan, perhaps dropping the kids off at school, and having to escape from the evil SPECTER from James Bond movie fame. If you really want to drive fast you would be better off in a number of sports cars that you could have for the same or less money. If you really want a comfortable sedan you should also look elsewhere....read morehide
