Pros Great performance with good mileage.
Cons Worth the price but still not cheap.

BMW calls this is a Sports Activity Vehicle - BMW speak for an SUV. IT'S A STATION WAGON! And a really nice one. Just the right size for my needs. Not a big, heavy, gas-sucking mountain of metal rolling down the road but large enough to handle four adults or to haul around a bunch of stuff. Performance is amazing for this type of vehicle. I don't normally drive an automatic transmission but this one comes very close to manual performance levels....MoreHide
Pros Responsive acceleration. Lots of power.
Cons Controls poorly laid out and not intuitive
Purchased as New
Bought a 2014 model 4 months ago and regretted not paying attention to details when I test drove it. I like the ride and manueverability but the controls like the wipers, radio, cruise control and phone are not intuitive at all. I purchased brand new car every 4 years in the last 30 years but never owned a BMW and this just disappoints me....MoreHide
Pros Grin-inducing performance, good utility
Cons Options can make it pricey

OK. The 28i is very nice. But the 35i will put a grin on your face every time you touch that throttle. When I optioned up a 28i it cost close to the base 35i which had many options included. MSport is totally worth it - handling is sublime on summer tires. It's one of the best things about it. All seasons suck - get a set of winters if you need it. There is no other vehicle like this right now - like you took an STI, gave it a classy interior (sport seats are a must on X1, BTW), and hid it as a daily driver. I've put almost 8k miles on it over the summer and still enjoy every moment. Skip the nav. Stock stereo is good. Base leatherette will last forever (particularly side bolsters) and is quite nice imo. If you have good roads, go msport+19 summer tires w/o hesitation. Its not too firm, but corners nice and flat. It's like magic. I can fold down the back and throw in my bike. The 28i is great - particularly on gas - but the 35i is amazing and I can't get this engine in a 3 series wagon in the US except for this....MoreHide
