2009 BMW X3 User Reviews
- Be careful
Purchased As New
I had a new BMW 2009 X3. It caught on fire itself when parked in the parking lot for more than 5 hours. the fire started under the dashboard. so make your decison on buying this car.

- Steering, braking, big windows, pano roof, fit and finish, engine power, spacious interior.
- Ride is horrible. Transmission is peculiar. Bad gas mileage

What is up with the ride in this car? It rocks, bounces, undulates and causes sea sickness on certain roads. The cup holder should be filled with Dramamine.
Undulating and bouncy should not be confused with sporty. This is not the sporty, asphalt-hugging BMW ride but an awe-inducing bounciness on well maintained roads. This is not riding over potholes, railroad tracks or rocks which the X3 doesn't have much of a problem with (ok, don't know about rocks - this is not an off roader) but what happens on flat or slightly hilly roads at low to medium speeds.
Hit a small rise or curve in the road and sometimes the X3 bucks front to back, other times it seems to go up and down on each of its wheels in succession like a boat riding wakes coming from different directions. Other times it sways side to side in the mid-section where you can feel it underneath the front seats.
It is, without overstating it, the worst ride I have ever experienced while driving a car.
The X3 also has a quirky transmission. Aside from problems with the AT programming from years past, it seems to spend most of its time in some low gear providing for some odd hill behavior and possibly low gas mileage. The gas mileage is nothing to write home about either. Stay on the highways, the city will kill the mpgs and this car uses premium fuel.
All-in-all you will pay too much for the BMW ride which I did not find in this car. I am still looking for it. If you see it kindly let me know....read morehide

- Very Comfortable
- Rough Ride, Horrible brakes, transmission problems, Leaky A/C,
Purchased As New
This is the MOST HORRIBLE SUV I HAVE EVER OWNED!!!!! BMW says they stand for customer satisfaction. Clearly they haven't satisfied me. When I bought this SUV, it was fantastic. But after three months, the A/C broke, and the X3 kept getting stuck in the middle of the road. The brakes wore off very fast. By 5,000 miles, I needed new brakes!!!! One time on the highway, my back wheel wobbled, and came off. Luckily I was able to manuver the vehicle to the emergency lane and call AAA. Even though BMW gave their 50,000 mile service warranty, its not woth it because the car keeps breaking down. Luckily the Cash for Clunkers program came, and I traded the Bimmer for a volkswagen. Volkswagen is a lot better than BMW. So far I had no problems with my volkswagen....read morehide

I am glad this was one of the clunkers in the list.
I had it for 4 years and left it parked in my driveway to rot away. After the program was introduced I took advantage and drove this clunker to the dealer and got a new vehicle.

- Extremely sporty ride, excellent handling and good fuel economy
- Suspension might be too stiff for certain people
Purchased As Used
Great SUV, true sports car handling/ responsiveness. The suspension might be too stiff for some people but that the way a sports car suspension should be. Extremely fast, I was doing 137 mph on the autobahn the other day and felt like nothing. I love my X3. Would definately buy another X3 later on.

- Extremely sporty ride, very luxurious, high ride quality, powerful, excellent fuel economy
The BMW X3 is an exceptional SUV with excellent fuel economy, a ton of power, an extremely sporty ride, and an extremely upscale interior. Let's take a look, starting with sportiness. I have a 2008 X3, and I tested a 0 to 60mph of 5.9 seconds. That's ridiculously impressive for an SUV these days. It's fun and fast. The X3 is also one very luxurious SUV. Standard features include air conditioning w/ automatic climate control, interior air filter, tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel w/ radio controls, cruise control, power front seats, wood interior trim, AM/FM/CD/MP3 player, power sunroof, digital-media player connection and a memory system. I only use the radio, air conditioning, and cruise control (and steering wheel of course), and yet I STILL have more features that I can use. That's very convenient. The X3 also delivers high ride quality. No matter where I go, the X3 is eager to take me to my destination, whether I have to use the highway, forest, or windy coastal roads. Not only that, but the BMW X3 is also powerful. The X3 gives a very impressive 260 horsepower. That's a lot more than I needed when buying a high-performance SUV like the X3. It has six cylinders rather than four, it's awesome. Lastly, the BMW X3 delivers over-the-top fuel economy. When I tested it yesterday, it gave me an EPA estimated 31 city, 38 highway. So it's a fuel-efficient, luxurious, powerful, sporty, rewarding SUV....read morehide
