I just purchased the 2008 3.0si model. I am quite disappointed of the purchase because of the weight. One time on the freeway, I couldnt even pass a brand new stick-shift Corolla. I was not happy and I am still not happy. What is the point of driving a 50K + car when you cant pass a cheapy Corolla. I will probably sell it in a few months.
If you are from BMW and are reading this, please consider the following advices for your next X5.
The X5 should weigh no more than 3,800lbs, even with all the options. (yes, you can do it). If the current model weighs no more than 3,800lbs, the 3.0 engine would be more than perfect on the freeway. The problem with the X5 is the weight and not the engine size.
Make all the regular maintenance areas easily accessible for people who like to do their own maintenance. Honda is a very good example. this way, people will not be afraid to keep their cars after the warranty expires. With this, BMW will sell more cars like Honda and Toyota. This should be applied to all BMWs. Also, make the service lights and messages that can be turned off by the customers themselves. Again, once the warranty expires, most people will not keep their cars. BMW should not be afraid that this will lead to less business. Just look at Toyota and Honda, they have the winning formula.
If BMW will do the above on top of the legendary and famous BMW steering, handling and brakes, BMW will for sure to increase their number of sales all over the world. I know I will buy one and keep it for a long time like a Toyota or Honda.
