- Cons
- navigation could be better

Had our X5 35d for two years now and we love it. Drove it through some really rough winters with no issue what so ever.
We get 22 mpg 20/80 (Hwy/city). When we drive long distance we typically average about 28 to 30 mpg. In fact last winter I drove from Dallas TX, to north KS without stopping for gas. However I did stop to pull a state trooper out of snow bank...no problems....read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Diesel power with decent mpg, big sun roof.
- Cons
- Navigation is not as user friendly as Japanese cars
Purchased As New
I purchased the X5 diesel in Dec 2010 and I have only put on 2500 miles so far. I took one month vacation overseas in Jan/Feb. When I came back, I was worried that the battery might be dead. To my surprise, it started like I just parked it overnight. I have gotten 25.8 mpg on 70/30 Hwy/City driving. It handles most road conditions well. We had some snow just yesterday and today in Seattle, I can feel that the car swins a little bit on the road (less than one inch accumulation), not as confident as other 4wd suvs. Luckily we don't have too many snow days here. The navigation is not very accurate. When I was driving on highway, it showed that I was on a road pararel to the hwy. When I get home ( rural setting), it showed that I am on my neighbour's road 200 ft off my home. Looks like the Germans are not as good as the Japanese in terms of electronics. Also, my second key lost its battery already and can not open or lock the car. It is on my to do list to bring it to the dealer....read morehide

The X5 exceeds all of our expectations. Great Fuel Economy, terrific handling, Rugged, yet refined, appearance. The Heads-Up display is great and the sound system is wonderful. We will purchase another in 2-1/2 years.

- Burns oil- stone chipping on rear feder flares M sport- No support from BMW
Purchased As New
I just had built a 2011 X5 M sport. After 3200 miles my oil light came on. When I stopped at the dealer they told me that was normal and I just needed to add a quart. Also after spending 7500.00 for the M package with 20in wheels, the rear fender flares are chipping due to the stones being flung from the front tires. BMW offered to repaint once but that I was responsible for adding a clear brato the problem area. I have a great idea BMW, instead of putting a bandade on the problem why not have one of your engineers fix the problem with a extended mud flap or a larger fender flare. The problem is on all X5's with the M package. My first and last BMW...read morehide

- Pros
- BMW BADGE , with bad performance
- Cons
- too noisy at low speeds and in traffic NOT A GREAT BUY
Purchased As New
I BOUGHT MY BRAND NEW X5 2011 CAR FOR USD 83,000 not cheap ..... At first I was happy with it , THEN PROBLEMS STARTED, FIRST THE BOOT will not shut ,unless you force it, the showroom changed it after a delay till a replacement arrived to the repair shop... Then somehow a computer fault made the hand brake jam and yellow signal showed , sent IT again to the garage for COMPUTER re -programing , took them three days to do a simple reprogramming repair job... Then although it has done less than 2500 km, things started to go drastically wrong , noises comming from the drive system at low speeds/ low gears ,so far three times it has been in the garage over the last month only , with attempts to fix the problem and trace the reason of the noise, have compared it with other NEW X5 , there is no such noise only in my car this bad noise persists, the garage technicians changed the twin turbo , it did not work, they changed the dynamo it did not work, they checked the drive belts it did not work ; the garage admits there is a bad noise, and they cannot put there finger on it to fix it, trail and error and many checks did not reach to any conclusive reason to why such wrong sound of a bad bearing is coming from ???
I bought a brand new car and so far it has been 5 times in the garage, I do not recommend anyone to buy such a machine unless you have plenty of time to spend at the garage , while they try to fix the teething problems it has... without having the guts to admit that it is a faulty car and it needs to be replaced. So far I have done 8500 km and still living in the pain of waiting for the garage to call me again to try another solution ??
Some how in the rush of things BMW has commited grave design errors and thought they will get away with it, hidding behind the BMW badge? well it has not worked and I am demanding that they take back the car it is still under warrantee and it is a pain to drive, the pleasure is not there any more, every time I sit behind the wheel , I feel sad that such a probllem persist and BMW has not done anything about it yet.... I used to own a 2003 x5 4.8i before this one ; it was more comforatble and less noisy .. would BMW SOLVE MY PROBLEM? AND WHEN ?
Some times we work hard to make a dream come true , in my case it is a nightmare and I AM LIVIVNG IT .... IT IS A SHAME , I AM SO SAD :)...read morehide101 out of 109 people found this review helpful.
