Spectacular full size sports sedan -- with quirks

by SB27 from Denver, CO (6/30/08)
Pros:A sports sedan in the truest sense of the word. If you want to float down the road, buy an S Class.
Cons:Transmission. Basic Mode creates "interesting" shift points. S mode is fun and aggressive.

I owned a 540i Sport for 7 years. What a great car. Terrific handling, 6 speed transmission, sporty motor (not particularly fast). Then, I turned 50 years old. I needed more space. I wanted an automatic transmission (with occassional paddle shifting). The logical choice is the 750i. I bought the Sport edition. Far better look and wheel style.

The pro's here are very clear. Firm ride, great handling -- you will not feel like grandpa driving the family couch down the road a la the S Class. The motor is strong with a nice sound -- throaty, but not Italian. The car is the perfect size for both a fun ride and room for 4 adults and all your stuff. Ingenious trunk design. Love the automatic opening trunk and close. Love the seats and all the electronic positions. OH -- absolutely love Keyless Go system -- a must. No more messing with your keys. Very cool system. Xm satellite also a good option and, again, don't forget to order this car in sport -- the 21 inch wheels alone are worth it.

The negatives are an interesting mix. Occassionally, the transmission wants to not take the next gear and/or hesitate before shifting. A little weird. BMW needs to look at this. The "S" transmition mode (for Sport) is awesome. Takes the next gear at higher revs and remains at high revs even on downshifting. The car rockets from a standing start in S gear. The gas mileage is what you would expect -- it suck at around 14 MPG in town. I was getting 16.5 MPG in my 540i. The price of power and size. The I-Drive system, while not the devil I had heard about, wants to occassionally reboot itself. In XM satellite mode, it occassionally freezes and does not want to change satellite radio stations. The interior is a little bland and Germanic. C'mon, BMW, its Okay in this day and age to buff out the interior. The paddle shifter a re a little useless in their position on the steering wheel. You better be pretty limber to change the gears with your fingers while at low speed turning into a curve and applying power. The up-shift takes dexterity (perhaps long fingered people here will agree). The heated s

Other pluses are the heated and active vented seats -- very cool. Super comfortable and yet sporty seats. Excellent storage trays in the mid section of the dash -- well thought through and handy. Side storage requires small handed people (the map storage bins). Love the handling. Love the way it drives. No regrets. If you want the ultimate large sports sedan -- this is it. I would not order the iL unless you want to feel like you are in a limo. It is only 6 inches more in back -- but it really changes the look and feel of the car. Stick with the 750i in my opinion. Hope this helps all lookers.

It's a good buy, if you can handle it.

by Noman (4/21/08)
Pros:German Technology, Powerful, Comfortable
Cons:More means more money

Excellent drive, smooth cornering. The overload of technology will definitely give you an ego boost on the road.

Perfect combination of luxury and sporty look-and-feel. Not for the luxury enthusiast alone. If you're looking for a soft cushy ride alone, you are better off with the Merc S-Class. Stick to the BMW 7 if you need a little kick in your ride as well.

Not for Everyone

by Max from Thousand Oaks, CA (4/10/08)
Pros:Classic BMW luxury, classic BMW performance, classic BMW technology
Cons:Technology will scare you, and so will the $123k prce tag

Of course, the luxury in the 760Li is top of the line. The performance is very good, but could have a stronger engine. The handling will help you avoid almost any bad situation. And the technology is advanced as it can be. But it will overload you brain. But the price will might as well kill your brain.

Good Performance, Great Car!

by Bugsy from New York (3/27/08)
Pros:Very satisfied, drives very smooth!

Performance is not as good as I thought. I bought a new fully upgraded. But otherwise great vehicle. I have three 7-series and this by far is one of my favorites.

Luxury image versus junk service

by Maro Urikhanyan from Van Nuys, CA (3/19/08)
Pros:Good fuel economy
Cons:Problems with transmition and unacceptable service from Bob Smith of Calabasas dealership

I bought my BMW-750LI in the beginning of January 2008 from Bob Smith dealership of Calabasas, CA. As I drove my car home the same day, I noticed that the vehicle lurches when slowing-down harsh downshift, giving very unpleasant sound. As I understood, there was a problem with the transmission. Any driver would understand how it is-buying a new luxury car with a broken transmission. I took the car back to the dealership twice. Nothing was fixed. I started bombarding the dealership and the headquarter with my complains, hoping to get some solution, but all in vein. The are unable to fix the car, and they refuse to change it. This is the 3 month -I still can
