disappointment!

by Afshar Mohammad Reza from Dubai, U.A.E. (10/05/08)
Pros:good looking car
Cons:bumpy ride , run flat tyres noisy , fuel economy

I bought the car for my wife two months ago. This is my first experience with a 4x4 BMW. The car does not meet my expectations. I still enjoy my Nissan Titan more after 3 years and 65000 miles .The sound coming out of the car's audio system is very poor .The GPS system is outdated.Interior is wearing out quickly. I am not impressed with the car at all. For the same price there are definitely better four wheel drives in the market.BMW really needs to watch out.

3 Stars. Good looks and safety. Many challenges.

by Realtor in Boca. from Boca Raton, FL (9/07/08)
Pros:Style. Safety. Hugs the road. Service included.
Cons:low MPG. i-drive. overall finish. stereo system glitches. 3.0 is sluggish. expensive.

Alright, this is my 18,000 mile report for the 2007 X5 3.0, same as 2008.
The pluses are self explanatory. The negatives:
- i-drive will drive you nuts at times with illogical navigation.
- blue-tooth compatibility and reliability is spotty. Test your phone before you buy, and oh, the dealer will not tell you that there is a list of approved phones. If you use anything else and damage your electronics, the warranty is void.
- when connecting your ipod/mp3 through the auxillary plug, the audio reverts to the radio input EVERY time you turn off the car. Very annoying since you have to increase the volume way high to hear anything, so now the radio blares every time you start the car. After so many years in business, a glitch like this is simply unacceptable.
- with the audio off, you sometimes can still hear the radio in a faint background, like a ghost...
- the leather is wearing off quick in the Florida sun... Also the door trim to the glove compartment peeled off in the sun 2 months ago. The glue is apparently not UV resistant.
- when you slow dow to almost a stop and press the gas, there is tremendous hesitation and the car jerks as finally it wakes up.
- if you suddenly press on the gas while driving, do not expect responsiveness, it takes a bit to wake up this behemoth. Go for the larger engine if you want power.
- tire wear is high, and expect to change tires between 20-24k. and the run-flats cost an arm and a leg...
- suspension is tight and ride can be rough for people with back problems.
- gas mileage is abyssmal...
- black trim pieces are fading badly in florida sun...
- way overpriced vehicle for the quality.
Lastly, BMW never acknowledges issues, as their drones keep repeating "the ultimate driving machine". Sorry good, but not so ultimate.
Get it for the looks and the safety. I did.

2008 X5; an SUV with a sports car ride.

by Taz from South Hempstead, New York (8/06/08)
Pros:My 3rd X5. Lots of power. MPG 13 city and 19 highway. Heated and cooled seats, nice option.
Cons:A little sluggish off the line. Premium gas only. A bit expensive.

Had an 02, 05 and now the 08. The 08 by far the best one yet. This truck looks real beefy, especially when equipped with the sport package, big 20's and the optional running boards. Lots of nice options, NAV system well improved with real time traffic and voice command, Comfort access allows you to get in and drive your X5 without taking the key from your pocket, the breathable seats are a nice option on those hot or cold days, cargo room is bigger as the truck overall is a little bigger then previous models. The transmission is as smooth as it gets and seems to have endless power as you pass the posted speed limit. Bottom line if your going to buy an SUV and like to "drive" you owe it to yourself to test drive the X5 before your make a decision. It is by far (in my opinion)the best SUV out there. You pay for what you get.

Luxury is not cheap! otherwise, ride a Donkey :)

by Alfonso Reyes from Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia (7/22/08)
Pros:Just about right on fuel comsumption for a luxury SAV. Navigation system is on the dot.
Cons:Ride is a little rough, Annoying sound on the humps and expensive accessories..

In this computer age, people should easily learn how to use the i-Drive. Everything at your finger tips including service schedules and reminders. The panorama sunroof is wonderful, standard Run Flat Tire is surely a part of safety and security making a spare tire a thing of the past. I'm sure, the next generation of BMW will come with No Flat Tire as standard :)

OVERALL Excellent vehicle

by Dennis Shoji from Milpitas, california (7/22/08)
Pros:Excellent handling on turns and down hill. Heated seats. Love the auto stick and love driving in man
Cons:MPG poor, around 20, expensive repairs, Premiun gas

2002 X5 has over 87,000 miles and still going strong. Expensive for 90,000 mile check costing over $1722 consisting of tune up, rear breaks, RF half shaft boot replacement and replaced upper radiator hose and computer sensor chip . Other repair shop would be cheaper and same quality of repair and tune up. Waiting for the new Hydrogen car to come out.

Go for it, x5 08 3.0 is aces

by DP-RP-lovedacar from rockland,ny (6/24/08)
Pros:Smooth sedan ride, quiet engine great breaks, Jog wheel-I drive very efficient, 3rd row option
Cons:Price. Thats its for now.

Drove the 02 x5 for years; nice job BMW taking care of the engine/breaks/handling again so well, but also catching up with technology. The Idrive works, just see it as all inclusive, everything at your fingertips by the jog wheel. Best looking suv out there on the outside, great machine on the inside. No need for 4.8, too strong. 3.0 more than enough power. Love it.

the BOSS IS BACK

by christopher from britain (6/20/08)
Pros:good fuel economy(diesel) car drives like a sports sedan, goes brillant everywhere
Cons:hard ride(run flats), it wont go as high as a rangey offroad

ive just bought my 2008 X5 diesel in here, great britain..and my God how it handles so smilarly to a 3 series...it's a sports sedan wearing a different kind of shirt..of all the suv's out there..i would recommend this one..the diesel...it handles like a dream, ride aint too bad, it wouldnt be stopped by the beaten track, it gives sporting feedback whuile balancing top marks in fuel economy + it could take children to school(7) during the school run and bring it to a race track after! wwith 348 lb ft this car flies and soars alot faster then an ML, be as fast as a cayenne(while returning twice the fuel economy), be as luxurious as a RANGE ROVER! its an exceptionall all rounder!

2008 BMW X5 3.0si

by KP from Foster City, CA (5/27/08)
Cons:small 3rd row seats

This SUV handles the road best, compared to all the SUVs I have ever driven. Remarkable attention to detail, best looking interior immediately caught my attention. When I test drove, its handle on road made me feel like I am driving my convertible. Front and rear heated car seats, USB interface-play music from your flash drive or iPhone/iPod, panoramic moon-roof, just amazing. Comfort Access-never take out your car key from your pocket, I didn

Absolutely NO COMPLAINTS!

by Miss my Mini, NOT! from New York (5/15/08)
Pros:Smooth, tight & solid ride, over-designed, excellent quality, stunning looks.
Cons:Premium gas & MPG

With extreme sadness I traded in my '05 Mini Cooper S because my kids simply got too big (and the car was too fast...). The sorrow lasted about a day. What I gave up in "What a Blast!!" I replaced with "Wow, This is the Ultimate Driving Machine." Other than literally half the MPG, the X5 is an unbelievable ride. The I-drive grows on you quickly, and actually becomes second nature. All of the controls are well placed and user friendly, although initially intimidating. Most are set up once and left alone. PS The website has detailed mini-videos on just about every aspect of the car for people who can't be bothered looking in the manual. My X5 has most of the bells & whistles - including the automatic tailgate (it's convenient and fun!). I have not been disappointed by any of these packages. BMW sets the standard in quality - from the adorable Mini to the well designed X5. This is our 4th BMW - each one has been better than the last.

PIECE OF JUNK!!!

by Ash from Minneapolis, MN (4/14/08)
Pros:Can't think of one.
Cons:It will take a lifetime to figure out the controls.

Bought a 2008 x5 three months ago. The car got stalled in the middle of the road. Got it towed to the dealer. The car had a bad fuel pump. Can't understand how a car with 3,000 miles can get stalled. Have owned Honda & Nissans in the past. Drove the cars ovr 100,000 miles. Never had a single problem. BMW is a piece of luxury junk.
