2005 Cadillac SRX User Reviews
- $7,705 - $9,931
- Lots of Room and Versatility. Panoramic Roof
- Poor Reliability, Gas mileage
Purchased As New
I owned a 2005 SRX for 7 years. It was loaded with everything including AWD except the Navigation package.
The Bose stereo and panoramic sun roof where the things I enjoyed most. The ride was choppy and rough. The reliability was poor. The design was poor. For instance the day time running lights when they burned out required over $150 in labor to change two light bulbs. You should always replace both since it cost just as much labor to replace one as to replace two.
In the seven years and 57,000 miles I owned it; It went though a main computer (in the radio stack and a warranty item), a water pump, a timing chain (non warranty item) and a catalytic converter (warranty claim).
It ate tires about 18,000 miles since they could not be rotated front to back (the front and back tires are different sizes). the tires are odd sized so choices were limited and expensive.
Other items like brake pads, batteries and belts and hoses were not a problem.
The V-6 labored to move the bulk and in the city I averaged only about 14 MPG despite the on board computer's more optimistic claim of 15 mpg. The AWD was ok though and worked well, especially when used with the manual shift feature.
The rear 3rd row seat was usable only small children for a short period of time. The back seats though were quite comfortable. The fronts seats were great until you fastened the seat mounted shoulder belt. It was low on me and actually painful at times due to the odd, low angle.
The head lights were great as was all around visibility. The backup sensors were useful but not really necessary after you got used to the vehicle.
In short it was roomy but problematic and expensive vehicle due to poor engineering, odd sized tires and maintenance issues....read morehide

- UNBELIEVABLE!!!! EVERYTHING about the SRX is GREAT!
- Haven't found any cons.
I like to get a new car every couple of years so I lease my cars.
I have had a Yukon Denali, 2-Escalades and now the SRX.
The SRX is superb to all.
I have test drove all the Cadillac's and the SRX beats them all.
I am 6'3" and the SRX fits me perfectly. Great leg room, head, shoulder and hip room. I have had 4 adults and 3 three children in the car everyone was comfortable. I think the stadium seating is the answer to leg room.
I found that BIG doesn't always mean a lot of room for passengers.
The SRX has proved it.
My salesman at Woodworth Motors, Andover, MA said to me you will like the better then the Escalade. When I drove it, I said SOLD!!!!!...read morehide

- Lots of Power ,Very stylish
- Rear seating feels the bumps....needs softer tires
Biggest complaint is that although there is rear air conditioning there is no rear heat.....this is absurd! Low profile tires handle great but ride is harsh for a Cadillac. Car has 6500 miles on it and drivers seat heater stopped working. Information center on dash sometimes is scrambled. Trans has a habit of thumping when you get back on the gas pedal after coasting....this I hear is normal but it takes getting used to. Car handles like a race car and has the HP as well.....Fun to drive and very comfortable and stylish in my eyes....read morehide

- Just a fine ride and drive, what a car is all about. Obviously a Cadillac has a lot of nice options.
- Mileage low, but in the expected range for a V
While a buyer of a Cadillac is not looking for great mileage, it would be nice if it were better. The wide door thresholds are a bit of a pain, some of the other complaints (speedometer is hard to read etc) are true, the car is a great car and I am very happy with it so far. My brother has a MDX and a client has a Lexis but this has the best ride, and handles like a dream. All others I have driven or rode in were remarkably harsher and noisier rides. I have the Magnetic ride control and the dips in the 95 through Las Vegas are enough to get my 05 truck airborne at 75, but this is nothing at 80 in my Cad. I have never had a quieter, smoother ride in my life. I love it....read morehide

- Comfortable, spacious, drives like a dream, very smart car!
- Bad fuel economy. You will pay a lot for a gas. O well, if you can afford car you can afford the
I absolutly love this car, it is very classy and very comfortable. Get the sunroof, it is huge and make you feel like you drive convertable with out all the noise and wind in your face. This is the best 50K I ever spend on car!

- Styling, Comfort, Safety features
- Wide door seals can be a problem, Keep them clean and there is no problem
I decided to buy a new vehicle and drove all the makes and models.
Volvo, Lexus, BMW and Nissan. They were all very nice but when I test drove the SRX I knew it was love. As always you have to go back and try it again to see if it was a fluke. The second test drive was of a 2005 SRX with the Ultra view roof in Blue Chip color that was stunning. This particular car had all the options except the rear DVD and Navigation system. Those where not an issue to me since I also have a XJR with NAV that was a nice toy for a few weeks but is now always turned off. Don't be fooled this vehicle is very smooth and quick. What you would expect from a cadillac. For some folks who are not gadget savy the instrumentation could prove to be a bit tricky. I like them and really like the placement. Caddy was thinking when they designed this car. I think this car is a real sleeper. I didn't even look at domestics because their styling and features and road manners are usually inferior to the imports. I almost purchased a xc90 volvo. However, I am glad I did some more homework. The SRX rounds out my vehicle stable nicely. A 4000+ lbs vehicle will never be a mileage leader but with sensible driving I am currently averaging 19/20 MPG....read morehide

- Handling, Ultraview Sunroof, Comfort
- Fuel Economy
I was considering buying a Lexus RX330 but decided to look at the SRX due to employee pricing. I ended up purchasing the SRX with Ultraview, 3rd row & Bose system (Luxury & Utility Packages) in diamond white with aftermarket wood package (included) for total out the door price of $38,280. The dealership was great and so far I am very happy with vehicle, I'm sure I'll get better gas mileage once it's broken in. In my opinion if you are in the market for a luxury SUV/Crossover get the SRX it gives you the whole package, luxury, performance, safety, space & comfort....read morehide

- Performance, A/C, Steering
- differential, transmission, ride controls, door sills
Caddy bought my 04 back. Often it would not start regardless of weather and would backfire. Differential made terrible noise, ( replaced) transmission went out, (replaced) ride control would turn on when it wanted to and would drop the rear of the car. Lights would flash at highway speeds. Roof squeeked like old Pontiac T tops. Second replacement car '05 had power steering pump go out and now the transmission is now trying to decide what gear it wants to shift into. Dealer and factory people are working hard but the product is not yet reliable. Next car will be Lexus....read morehide

- 2 recalls, and and broken GPS Navigation
I have had the car for 6 months and had to bring it in for 2 recalls. The navigation stopped working, and neither the dealer or GM/Cadillac Customer Assistance can find out when the parts will be available to make the repair.
GM Customer Assistance said "that there are many people out there who have the same problem you do and have been waiting a lot longer than you have already" " We can't any other information on when the parts will be available, GM/Cadillac does not make the radio/GPS system, it is made by a 3rd party we have no control over."...read morehide
