2008 Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab 2WD
There are 3 user reviews for the LS trim shown below
- Good pairing of engine with transmission, very good gas milage, roomy interior
- Window crank is flimsy, engine has little braking power, limited seat adjustment
I currently bought this truck and drove it over a month to try to give an accurate review. This truck is equipped with the I-4 engine with an automatic transmission.
Now to elaborate on the cons quickly. The most important blemish of this truck is the power of the engine while on a downgrade. The I-4 engine cannot hold back the truck while empty (no additional load) on moderate to steep grades. Fully loaded (within recommended limits), the truck will pick up speed at a fair clip. Downshifting to 3rd or 2nd gear is needed to maintain a safe operating speed (and not burn up the brakes). Other small cons of the truck is the window crank is made up of two plastic pieces that can separate while using. The seat adjusts forward to backwards just fine. The seat only has only two reclining positions though, down forward and locked upright: sort of a one position fits all.
And the pros of this truck. First and foremost I will say that the truck in a tremendous value. MSRP of the truck is floating around $15k. Not many vehicles fit in the price range anymore. While $15k is more than pocket change for most, if owned over 5 years or longer the cost of ownership of the truck goes to the floor. With the purchase of the vehicle, comes one of the better warrantees among small trucks(36k/3yr basic and 100k/5yr drivetrain). The Atlas model of engine has very good power (~185hp/195ft*lb) and is paired very well with the transmission. Power to the wheels can get the truck moving. I will put in the disclaimer now that I realize that 185hp and 195 ft*lb of torque is not 350+ hp and 360+ ft*lb of the 6.0L Vortec, but neither is the fuel consumption. This truck is easy on gas. I am average between 24 and 27 mpg pretty consistently. The interior is roomy for two passengers and a little cramped for three. There is ample amounts of room behind the seats to store the usual tools, raingear, flashlight, etc. The truck has a good radio and cruise control, intermittent wipers auto lights (which can be turned off).
In conclusion, this truck in a very good truck. I want to say it is not a car. So people who own trucks just to say they have a truck, then drive them as cars, there is a good chance that this is not your truck. People who will use this to haul materials or pull small loads and to do so economically, will probably be pleased with the truck.
