2008 Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab 2WD User Reviews
- $8,065 - $9,201
- Fantastic looks, mpg, and usability rolled into one.
- None that I have found yet!
I bought this truck for economy and to use to tow my utility trailer. I have towed the 5x8 trailer loaded with wood to my brothers 80 miles away and returned home three times and got 24-25 miles per gallon each time. That is outstanding in my book!!! The 4 cyl and 5 speed standard work exellent! I towed my motorcycle down to the middle of Pa ( 287 miles one way ) for a rally on a rainny weekend and got 19.8 miles per gallon. That's alot of hills to contend with. This truck did it with ease and my wife and I were comfortable both ways. I did this with my 2003 Jeep wrangler and our behinds suffered terrible! This has been a Fantastic truck is all I can say. If ever I trade it in later on I'll be looking for another one again. I'm about ready for my 6000 mile service and have NO COMPLAINTS. I'm supprised when I read how the interior isn't fancy, no frills, etc. I bought the truck with the likes of the exterior as will as the interior. This is a great looking truck in my book....read morehide

- Good fuel economy, lots of power.
- no complaints
I have a 2008 regular cab LT1 with the 3.9L engine. I've added a cat back dual exhaust system and a performance air intake with a K&N filter. The changes have added about 20hp...up to about 260hp and added a couple mpg to the mileage. No problem towing my boat. I recently took a trip to california and got 26-27mpg on the highway. I traded in a Dodge 1500 Quad Cab 4X4 with the Hemi...the Colorado is faster 0-60 than the Hemi by one tenth of a second and gets 11-12 mpg better than the Dodge. The only change I would make is...I would get the extended cab...more room for stuff inside....read morehide

- Roomy interior, good fuel economy, zippy.
My last truck was a v6 Ranger - which left me dead in the water trying to get into fast moving traffic. Not so with the Colorado. I bought a 2005 I-5, regular cab, automatic LS with all the toys, extended 100K warranty, and it's just fun to drive. I looked for 2 years for this truck - because I wouldn't pay sticker and they wouldn't discount the regular cabs - and there's not many of these on the market. I found it last August with 21K for 11,500. It's a cherry. Grins from ear to ear....read morehide

- Good fuel economy, actually fun to drive as easy to handle.
- GM cheapened many things: Example sheet metal too thin, plastic parking brake release came off.
The plastic break release snaped back on easily but every time I use it I wonder if it will fall off.
Rear bumper edge, painted, gets torn up from small stones that stick in the tires. Had to purchase touch up paint and installed an after market mud flaps for the rear.
Love the vehicle and really enjoy driving it as it has a quick response, easy to park and very comfortable for me at six foot one inch tall.
I also have the trailer package on the vehicle and have pulled a small utility trailer. Vehicle handles super well even with trailer....read morehide

- Fuel economy is excellent for a truck. 28mpg on the hwy. 20 - 24 in the city.
- Creaks in the bed, Radio has no front panel aux conector.
I purchased this truck as my retirement vehicle. I made the right choice! The people I know who have the Rangers, Tacomas, and Frontiers all have had trouble and many complaints about their trucks. They all love mine!!! I dont know what people are talking about when they say cheap interior. Maybe Im just old, but it looks good to me. If you didnt like the looks of the interior, why did you buy the truck? The final thing that made me buy the Colorado was that I couldnt get the other dealers to price anything out. All they wanted to do was sell what what was rotting on their lots. I have had the truck for 3 years now and am completely satisfied. Dont complaing about the U.S economy if you drive a foreign nameplate!!...read morehide

- 4Cyl. engine has just as much torque and HP as the sierra V6, power is not a problem
- Only problem I have with it, is that i can't find any good snow tires for 15inch rims
Compared to the 4cyl. that came with the S10's, your head will wrap around the seat with this 4cyl. Power is not a problem, I tow a 1100lb jetski and it rides nice on the road. I can't imagine what the 5cyl. does. With a tonneau cover i get around 2-3 more miles to the gallon on the highway. Definatly get the power convenience package, and the rear tinted window. I also went with the power sunroof and glad i did, its only 400 dollars more and makes the interior look awesome, and also the girls love it! No regrets whatsoever. Will buy another one when this one dies(If it ever does)...read morehide

- Good pairing of engine with transmission, very good gas milage, roomy interior
- Window crank is flimsy, engine has little braking power, limited seat adjustment
I currently bought this truck and drove it over a month to try to give an accurate review. This truck is equipped with the I-4 engine with an automatic transmission.
Now to elaborate on the cons quickly. The most important blemish of this truck is the power of the engine while on a downgrade. The I-4 engine cannot hold back the truck while empty (no additional load) on moderate to steep grades. Fully loaded (within recommended limits), the truck will pick up speed at a fair clip. Downshifting to 3rd or 2nd gear is needed to maintain a safe operating speed (and not burn up the brakes). Other small cons of the truck is the window crank is made up of two plastic pieces that can separate while using. The seat adjusts forward to backwards just fine. The seat only has only two reclining positions though, down forward and locked upright: sort of a one position fits all.
And the pros of this truck. First and foremost I will say that the truck in a tremendous value. MSRP of the truck is floating around $15k. Not many vehicles fit in the price range anymore. While $15k is more than pocket change for most, if owned over 5 years or longer the cost of ownership of the truck goes to the floor. With the purchase of the vehicle, comes one of the better warrantees among small trucks(36k/3yr basic and 100k/5yr drivetrain). The Atlas model of engine has very good power (~185hp/195ft*lb) and is paired very well with the transmission. Power to the wheels can get the truck moving. I will put in the disclaimer now that I realize that 185hp and 195 ft*lb of torque is not 350+ hp and 360+ ft*lb of the 6.0L Vortec, but neither is the fuel consumption. This truck is easy on gas. I am average between 24 and 27 mpg pretty consistently. The interior is roomy for two passengers and a little cramped for three. There is ample amounts of room behind the seats to store the usual tools, raingear, flashlight, etc. The truck has a good radio and cruise control, intermittent wipers auto lights (which can be turned off).
In conclusion, this truck in a very good truck. I want to say it is not a car. So people who own trucks just to say they have a truck, then drive them as cars, there is a good chance that this is not your truck. People who will use this to haul materials or pull small loads and to do so economically, will probably be pleased with the truck....read morehide

- Quick, reliable, confortable, roomy, and really solid
- Haven't seen a single thing to complain about
I have the Canyon (sister version) of this truck. I have had it three years and find it ideal. People love the looks of it and it has tons of power. That 5 cylinder engine is like a swiss watch. I have not had a single problem and find it comfortable, fast, and fun!! I have the SLE version and that is plenty of luxury. The SLE seats are great. After three years I still LOVE driving this truck and am high up and able to see all the cars ahead in traffic thanks to the Z-71 option. I dolled it up with a high-brow Infinity speaker system and a tuned exhaust. Honestly, I can wholeheartedly recommend this vehicle!!...read morehide
