- comfortable /engine and tranny have been reliable.
- the engine struggles at lot at 40 mph/breaks/ axles/fuel pressure regulator.
I bough my silverado brand new in 99 it is a 1500 4wd reg cab ,5.3 autowith the towing package.
Between 60 to 70 thou miles the front axle grenaded and the axle split in two halves. Shortly after the rear axle pinion bearings went out.
The abs motor came on one day and wouldent go off, the abs module burnt out[$800 for new module] The brake rotors all warped causing bumpy braking. I am now in the process of replacing rotors $520 for 4 rotors [good ones]. The battery started leaking acid every where. the fuel pressure regulator went out the replacement part cost $100. Thats my biggest gripe the fact that replacement parts are so expensive. The truck lacks power under and slightly over 40 mph unless you kick down and change gear . but when you do kick down there is massive power in reserve. but on highway it finds it difficult towing a small boat to keep the speed up unless it is constantly up/down shifting.
Over all i love to drive the truck it has never stranded me on the road and i have 121000 miles travelled on the odometer, and hopefully it will keep going. It has got serviced at regular inter vals since new. There was updates for the computer but GM charges $90 for the updates.
