- The Duramax Diesel LBZ gives you sports car performance, great mileage, brilliant winter vehicle.
- There are no "cons". This is an excellent personal vehicle, my every day any reason transport.
Purchased As Used
I have had Corvettes, Camaros, other Chevrolet & GMC 4 X 4's in my life....but for all around utility, performance, safety, and dependability this is absolutely the BEST vehicle (car or truck) that I have ever owned. The LBZ Turbo Duramax propels this Regular Cab like it was a Corvette!! Read the power specs on this engine!!! They are not an exaggeration! I bought it for the winter performance, knowing that it would have superior towing abilities, but I am amazed at how well this truck handles and accelerates. Have averaged 16 - 17 mpg during this brutal winter here in Minnesota on winter blend fuel. Since I just bought it, I have not had the chance to run it in the summer yet but friends who have Duramax's in Extended Cab chassis report they get 20+ mpg during summer months. I can't wait!
Exterior and Interior fit and finish are excellent. Great Delco-Bose stereo / CD system with XM satellite radio. Power windows, locks, remote all work great. It has the engine block heater that has been very useful during the past sub-zero days and nights (where's the global warming, Al?). Very comfortable high back + headrest cloth bucket seats. Well designed center console / armrest has large compartment to hold stuff and folds up to accomodate third passenger. The six speed Allison transmission performs great; with the additional capability of manually "touch-shifting" it up or down the gears in manual mode. This gives the truck a true engine braking capabilty. The subtle deep exhaust groan with a hint of turbo whine inspires spirited driving of this highly agile truck, making this much more fun to drive than any truck should be. A radar detector and CB radio are "must have" accessories to stay out of trouble with this one. Very easy to do any owner maintenance, engine compartment well laid out, not cluttered nor cramped. Fuze boxes, PCM / ECM well labelled and easy to access. Truck has sufficient ground clearance to change oil and filter without jacking or ramps. I could go on and on....can't say enough good things about this truck!! 2007 was the last year for the diesels before EPA goons forced the truck makers to choke them off with Distillate Particulate Filters (exhaust "cleaners"), catalytic converters, and urea injectors. I see many of these newer trucks at the end of tow hooks as their emissions controls fail and force the engines to shut down. Government should not attempt to design and build cars and trucks. Don't buy any diesel made after 2007 and just avoid all the emissions control junk !!!...read morehide
