- Affordable, lots of standard features, attractive car
- Road handling in snow/slush/ice
My last car was a 1 liter 98 Chevy Metro so my comments might reflect that. My manual transmission Chevy Aveo has good acceleration. I normally drive 60 to 65 on the expressway, but in this car I look at the speedometer and find I'm doing 75 or 80.
The price was remarkable, $7820 out the door for the "Special Value Wagon (hatchback). Lot's of extra's for the money: Intermittent wiper blade setting, Rear window wiper, AM/FM radio with great sound, Seperate in-dash clock, tilt stearing wheel, side mirrors are manually adjustable from the inside, and more.
It's roomier: There is seating for 3 in the back, but I wouldn't put 3 150LB adults back there. I'm a 6 foot tall. After adjusting the driver's seet to accomodate my legs I find that the rear view mirror does not allow a good view. I shorter person would have no problem with this.
Mileage: I have not calculated it yet. I am disapointed that it does not have a higher fuel rating than 35 MPG Highway. I was getting 45 to 48 MPG on the Chevy Metro 6 years ago.
Handling: On dry roads it is good. On snowy/icy roads I have to go 15 MPH slower than what I would have in my previous car.
Engine compartment: I've not had any reason to open the hood yet other than to familiarize myself with the components. It looks very uncluttered and appears to allow room to work. For example, if you needed to change a headlight bulb, you would not have to remove the car battery in order to get at the light.
