Bought my 2005 Aveo off the lot, good car till the timing belt broke and killed the engine, paid 4500$ to replace and a year later it does the exact same thing. GM doesnt care that this care is crap and i feel like they need to recall this particular year and model. Not a happy customer!!

My friend is currently operating a rented Aveo 5 through Baltimore (it was not his choice to rent). He is terrified of the extremely small lawn-mower tires, the millennium-falcon-entering-lightspeed-shaking that occurs at 32 MPH, and the awkward general shape. He claims to love all GM products, even his off-red Pontiac Vibe, the owning of which may or may not put his credibility in this matter into question, but hates the Aveo. I have a feeling it is one of those "Made in the USA" cars that is actually, with a combo of parts and assembly that is more Japanese than Toyota, which is easy to say is many Toyota vehicles are 60% or better produced assembled in the US. Just now, as he drives through Baltimore he has stated "This car, in fact, blows dudes.". There you have it folks, if you are driving through Baltimore lookout for one irate man in a little red Aveo. This why our roads are dangerous, our economy sucks, and John McCain did not beat Bush in the 2000 Republican primary; the Chevy Aveo. Thanks for reading...time to watch the Walking Dead....read morehide

I bought my Aveo in 10/2009. It over heats a lot and i have been told there is nothing wrong by the dealer, had all spark plugs and wires replaced at 45000, turnk latch needed to be adjusted so it would close, all guages went out (Cluster cylinder), now it is at the shop again don't know what it is this time but it does not look good. Antifreeze all over the ground....read morehide

Cute as a button, as a former SUV owner, I expected the gas milage to be much better. This is a simple car affordable and dependable. I would never purchase another small vehicle from an American maker. I will stick with the full sized and mid-sized but will always purchase those in the Chevrolet brand....read morehide

This is from an ex GM employee for 25 years, the Chevy Aveo is a great cheap car, however for all you people that say they havn't had to put a dime into it, you better look at the owners manual & replace the timing belt @ 60K or look to put an engine in it if the timing belt breaks....just a heads up...read morehide

It has a very bad howling noise when it is windy and your traveling at highway speeds. Also wind blows the car around easily. Otherwise you cant beat it

- Low gear is too low

Bought this car in 2007. Had it undercoated when purchased to protect it from the salt on the streets in the winter time. However the bonus of the undercoating was the reduction in road noise. A friend has a Jetta and he tells us the Aveo has less road noise than his Jetta. No undercoating on the Jetta. Now have 40,500 miles on it without any unscheduled maintenance. Gas mileage varies from 31 as the lowest and 39 as the highest. If driven at 65 mph on highway will consistantly get 36 mpg. City driving in the winter will average 31. Live in Minneapolis,MN and it amazed me how it gets around in the snow. Longest trip we have taken in it is 600 miles and it will average 36 on a consistant basis. We have the manual transmission. There is quite a change from 1st to 2nd gear. A little frustrating how low geared it is in 1st gear in rush hour traffic. From 2nd gear on up it is quite quick in acceleration for the size of the motor. I am a large man and have plenty of head and leg room. This is a good commuter car which why we purchased this vehicle. GM tells you that the timing belt will need to replaced at 60K right in the service manual and we have every intention of replacing it at that time. Still have the original tires on it and have rotated them twice since new and they are not down to the wear bars yet. People are amazed at the amount of room in the back seat for such a small car. Only complaint we have is the cup holder for the back seat is to short to hold anything for any period of time without tipping over. Front cup holders work well for the styrofoam cups you get at the convenience store. We see no reason why this car won't run 200K with regular maintenance. We have a/c and power door locks, but no cruise. I would certainly recommend cruise control if you intended to do much long distance highway driving. Seats are comfortable, with adjustable lumbar support and adjustable back. Don't be afraid of this car, it is a good car and will surprise you with the amount of room and comfort it affords you at a cheap price. I should mention in closing that we have found the gas mileage is more affected by the type of gasoline we purchase than any other factor. We have found that BP regular gets the best gas mileage for us....read morehide
