2009 Chevrolet Aveo5 User Reviews
- $6,626 - $8,501
- Easy maneuverability, great looks, great gas economy, versatile
- smallish engine
Purchased As New
An absolutely amazing car. I just purchased my second one today and have a 2004 and 2009 5-door hatchback. If you find the right dealer, you can sometimes get them dirt cheap (as we did, paying no more than $6,500 for the first one and $7,800 for the second one after rebates, haggling, and the good ole' GM card). We love this car and use it for driving around town all the time. It probably paid for itself just in gas savings. We always get tons of compliments and everyone wants to buy one.
It has never given us any major problems and has never been in the shop for longer than a day. It holds our family plus grocery bags, or target shopping sprees. A good little car that will serve you for a long time and keep a smile on your face.
A word of advice, the over priced ones that top off at $16-18k are entirely unworth it. If you are going to spend that much get a Malibu or something else. Both of our cars are manual Special value models with no AC and they are both bargains because of that. The extras are not worth it because this car does not have an amazing resale value....so keep that in mind.
I would not hesitate to purchase another Aveo!...read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- 31, with air on, 35 with it off..what can I say?
- wind noise is same as in my 06
If this is as good as my 06, I can't complain. I cannot comment about the back seat, as I have not been back there.
I used my 06 as a "go to work" vehicle, and that means a 68 mile trek, each way. The I 696/96 corridor is known as the american version of the 'auto bahn' With out manners. This thing is nimble enough to get out of the way when needed.
The only real complaint that I have is that when I set the steering wheel to the point of most driving comfort (for me), I cannot see the instrument panel well. And those low profile tires do not fair well with Michigan pot holes.
I still think that they should make a two seater, with some 'sporty' styling. Bet that it would sell..I'd buy it!
The 06 will end up with my college bound kid....read morehide

- Excellent gas mileage, really good handling, roomy for a small vehicle, stylish
- Seats could be a little less firm
LOVE THIS VEHICLE!!! FOLD-DOWN RER SEATS ARE GREAT AND TERRIFIC GAS MILEAGE. LESS WIND NOISE THAN I HAD ANTICIPATED, HANDLES LIKE A LARGER CAR, MORE COMFORTABLE ON LONG DRIVES THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE. AFTER DRIVING A VAN FOR A LONG TIME I AM EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH MY 2009 AVEO 5. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE TO ANYONE....read morehide

- price, styling, ride,
- hard to get 34 mpg, gauges are hard to see
I have had my 2009 for 10K miles. The car is comfortable on a trip and the steeering responds well . I am disappointed in the fuel mileage.

- fuel economy, lots of space
- seats and accelator pedal are not comfortable for long drives
I currently own a 2005 LT and I wanted to warn others about a problem with the automatic transmision shifting lever, it got stuck at around 60K miles, known issue by other owners and Chevrolet ... it will cost you around $150 to replace...NOT FREE.
it is kind of uncomfortable to drive for long periods of time...I drove for 13 hours (two days) ... right foot felt discomfort and neck problems with the cheap seat...you get what you pay for.
my wife still gets compliments on the looks of the car, Go with Green color!
rear brakes uses drums, not pads...there is a part that always needs to be replaced whenever you replace the brakes, another $10 a piece (2). They brakes have indeed lasted a long time though...I was fooled into replacing the rear brakes, it was not needed...but they made it so difficult for non-mechanic people to easily check.
front brakes, easy to do, have not done it yet though, but I know it uses pads. Good luck....read morehide

I traded a Blazer for my Aveo5 and I have already saved hundreds on fuel. I love my little car, its perfect for going to and from work and buzzing about town to do my shopping. I have gotten commits about how cute my car is. The ride is nice the price is great and I love CHevy's. Best decision I made in along time....read morehide

i'm 6'1 and 235, so i need a nice car, i dirve about 450 miles a week for work, and this i a good work car. GM needs to be making there here in america, and keeping the plaints open....read morehide

- great fuel economy, affordable price, This little car will go anywhere
- interior is noisy
I keep the rear seat folded and use this car like a mini pickup truck to haul bags of horse feed rather then break out the gas hog pickup. The front wheel drive is great, I can take this little car up steep gravel grades with no problem

- good fuel economy and comfort great car for the money

- Plenty of room inside, OnStar standard, sensitive steering, enough power to keep up
- None really...yet
We're talking about the 2009 Aveo 5 LS hatchback here. So new that my insurance didn't have it listed yet. Mine's Tahiti Green with charcol interior. Manual trans and power nothing. A basic transport module.
Some reviews give it a bad rap for the shifting and handling.
I found if you don't drive it like a racer, it responds just fine, thank you. In fact it's getting better with the miles.
Just to keep this short, I'll say I was hooked after the test drive.
Some things just call to you in spite of seemingly "better" choices.
I felt comfortable with the Aveo from the begining.
I feel like I'm driving it and not trying to "manage" it.
I hope you get my drift.
To summarize the ratings above, nothing about the Aveo "gets in the way." Except you can't use the ashtray with the cup holder full.
Visibility is exelent and there don't seem to be any bothersome blind spots.
Performance It's not meant to be driven hard.
IMHO no car is worth what we're paying for it these days but in today's terms, it's a good deal.
Overall, as I said above, it was "my" car as soon as I got in it.
Maybe it's "yours" too....read morehide
