- Great on gas, awesome handling, very comfortable, HUGE trunk and smooth ride.
- Cramped backseat.
Purchased As Used
I've had this car for a little less than 2yrs and I've already had to replace the electric power steering. I did buy it used with 28,000 miles and it has (roughly) 57,000 now [I drive a lot], but still...For a car this young, this problem shouldn't exist. I have a friend who is a certified GM mechanic and he says the problem is more and more typical, so watch out!...read morehide

- Great warranty, great fuel economy, stylish and fun!
- Ride is what you'd expect from a small car... Overall, no major issues.
For the price, you won't find a more stylish small car than the Cobalt Coupe. Round tail lights make it look like a working man's Corvette and the 148 hp Ecotec is the most powerful engine of any smaller car I've ever driven. I get between 32.8 and 33.6 MPG of fuel economy, driving mostly highway and 45 MPH country roads with about 20% stop-and-go driving in traffic. It's as fun to drive as my Volkswagen Jetta and it was $5000 less.
The standard 195/60/15 tires are pretty economical to replace. I put a lot of mileage on my cars, driving over 100 miles to work (round trip) every day, so I did my homework to get the most bang for my buck.
The interior is comfortable and functional but pretty plain. I'm not too fussy, but I'm sure there are more flashy interiors in other vehicles. The trunk is surprisingly big and the back seats fold down perfectly flat for large cargo. The front seats are roomy with the seats back, but the back seat is relatively small. I have 2 children, ages 4 and 2 and it's plenty roomy for them. Getting the car seats in and out isn't a problem.
When I don't have the kids, it's a fun car, too. For the money, you get an unbeatable mix of sporty, economy, and family.
The engine is different from most small cars. It seems like you don't have to wind it up to 6000+ RPM to get the full effect of the power of the car. It handles very well but rides a little rough as you'd expect from a smaller vehicle.
My favorite aspect of the car has to be the styling. From the spoiler to the front bumper, it's a neat looking car!...read morehide

- Quiet and smooth ride, good acceleration at high speed, great sound system
- spoiler limits rear visibility, hub caps are cheesy.
This car is a great value. It is $3k to $4k less than the equivalent Japanese car out the door and it has a better warantee. The Delta II platform was designed in Germany, and performs very well for the price. And what I like the best is the car is unique, its not a civic and its not a corola (like half the other cars on the road)!...read morehide

- Dash computer, Great fuel economy, Trunk room
- Not so comfortable on long trips
I have put about 3,500 miles on the car so far, including several long trips of 250 miles or more. The biggest (and practically only) problem I have had with the car is the loss of comfort on those longer trips... I have tried adjusting everything on the seat (even the lumbar) and it just seems hard to find a good comfortable spot in the car. Other than that, I love the great gas mileage (32) I have averaged between city and highway - well above what the car is rated to get on average. I love all the info the dash computer provides. Has great zip for a little 4 banger! Rides very smooth and quiet for a cheaper-end car. So far no mechanical problems, knock on wood....read morehide

- 28mpg city, Trip computer standard, Aux Input
- tiny back seat, fabric on door arm rests
I bought my Cobalt two weeks ago and am loving it. This is the first new car I have purchased and I am very impressed with it. This was not a car I was considering before I came to the dealership I was actually considering leasing a malibu but then I sat in the cobalt in the showroom and had to test drive it. Then I realized I could by the Cobalt for less than the payment on the Malibu so I couldn't pass it up. The supplier pricing I get through my work definitely helped also. Would recommend this car to anybody on a budget who needs a reliable car. Don't skimp on the options though. It's 2007 people power windows, locks, and keyless entry are all necessities. I also have the auto start which is awesome. I didn't want it but it was the only one that they had in the color and with the features that I wanted. It was awesome to start it from inside work the other day and have it be nice and cool when I got outside to the car....read morehide

- Acceleration, Styling, Ride, Driver position, AC standard, Seat adjusters, Remote trunk release.
- Not offered in AWD, side bags, ABS are options for LT1.
Let me elaborate on the pros and cons: (I have a blue LT1 Manual Trans)
Pros - the acceleration for this size and cost is very impressive- acceleration is instant. GM does a good job on the low end torque. It's there if you need it. The fit and finish is just fine, your not going to put a Lexus style leather wrapped dashboard in a Cobalt so don't expect one. The ride is smooth and comfortable yet well mannered in the turns. Stops are controlled and straight. No rattles or weird car noises. The driver information center is a very nice feature providing average mpg, water temp, outside temp, miles to go till empty, avereage speed, oil change indicator, and 2 trip odo's. AMFM CD with 6 pages for radio station pre-sets - you can also have AM+FM pre-sets on the same page (up to 6).
It is a realtively quiet ride. Many more nice features. Fuel economy is fine as well - combined hwy/city is 30 mpg.
I'm very happy with this purchase and recommend this vehicle. MSRP was 15135 + sales tax (16000) (The car had the optional rear deck spoiler.) I was out the door with with zero percent financing,, all fees paid for 11975. I took advantage of GM rebates along with using GM card earnings.
I was going to lease a Subaru 2.5I but bought this instead.
Cons- In the north you need AWD but GM does not offer it yet. My dealer had 80 Cobalts on the lot but didn't have the LT1 5 speed coupe, he found one 80 miles away (extra cost to have driven in). If you really need ABS and side air bags you can add them for a cost. 4 wheel disc brakes only available on the SS models.
Hope this helps in your decision. I will stop back in 3-6 months for an update....read morehide

- Nice look and sound!
- Acceleration, Transmission, and Buttons
I bought my car in July and it has been in the shop 5 times for the same problem. Cuts off going 60mph and doesn't go too well when stopped at stop lights at high speeds. The gas tank doesn't read my gas supply right, I have a hard time putting gas in there. I have had the fuel injector replaced. It says its empty but it isn't. I do not get 34 mpg. My cruise control button on the steering wheel and the sunroof button feel like they are going to fall out any day. Hard to control....read morehide

- Good looks, XM Radio, Fair Mileage, but souuld be better.
- Low profile tires make ride bad, interior noise filters in, body flex in doors.
Supposed to be an improvement, and in some ways it might be, BUT, the ghosts of Cavaliers past haunt it. Noisy, cheap quality in build, mileage not near what's advertised. 26mpg MAX on road, 25 in town. Overall, not much of an improvement.
One other minus; the 'stylish' rear spoiler cuts off some of the rear vision, making backing up a fun chore....read morehide

- Great fuuel economy, fun to drive, handles fantastic and turns on a dime
First "new" car I have bought in 18 years and I love it. Have been driving trucks and SUV's for the last 10 years so wasnt sure how I would handle the change but with gas the way it is I needed something economical and wanted something cheap. Got a 2 door LS and love it.
