i got this as a rental car, it was brand new, it was a loaded cruze with leather, etc. very nicely equipped. i own a chevy equinox awd which i really like but down falls on it are the mileage could be a little better for the 4 banger it has and the engine sounds a little loud at times and doesn’t seem like it fits the suv.
i have been driving this cruze for 9 days in Florida. I am surprised how much I like it. It is peppy enough and when the little engine kicks into turbo it moves along nicely. The engine sound is nice it sound a little sporty or more so like a foreign car. i find the pick up to be nice, much better than my equinox 4 cly. i am surprised it is only a 1.4 because it sure doesn’t feel that small or sound bad. Actually I really like the engine sound in the car. the interior is nice and easy to operate and the front seats i find pretty comfortable. other reviewers say not so much, so its either the leather or maybe just the way I fit in it.
i like the visibility and also the stereo, trip read out, etc. Around town and mixed driving i have average 32 mpg and i have not been light footed on it. i think that is pretty good. the trunk is decent size, the rear seat room is small with seats in front all the way back. the front seats offer a lot of leg room. i am 6 foot and long legged and did not need to put seat all the way back. Very roomy front which is important to me. the heated seats seemed not to heat up as hot as other cars i have had with heated seat but it may be because I am in Florida and it only went down to 55 degrees when i turned them on. The handling i thought was fantastic. really took curves, turns nicely for this kind of car (i would say much above average). The car does not feel cheap inside and I think now I know whey I see so many on the road. I had the new ford focus when it came out this year and also the ford fiesta both as rental cars also. I think this put both of them to shame. It has def better pick up than the focus and the interior controls much more user friendly and advanced, IMO. I have read great reviews on the Hyundai elantra but after driving the cruze I would prefer to get it since it has an American name (even though I am sure most parts are made all over). I am seriously considering getting one this spring. I do really like have all wheel drive as I have on my current suv and also like to sit up higher, but you know I liked this little car so much and like the mpg also that i might just take the plunge. Also it is a smaller gas tank but yet I got 400 miles on a tank full of gas, yippeeeeeeee! I don't know about long term reliability but in the week i have had it and put on over 500 miles it has run perfect.
So i guess right now I would have to highly recommend the cruze.
Only thing I don’t like is that I think they could have made the rear lights sharper looking, they are soooooo boring and I really think it would have improved the look of the car greatly! Other than that I think it is a nice looking car
good luck with whatever you pick, but it is a def one to check out!
