Purchased As New
I got rid of the car, it was a huge piece of sh*t with electrical and mechanical problems galore. I bought a 2006 hhr brand new and a 2008 hhr ss brand new and both fell apart before they even had 20,000 miles on them. I will never buy another GM piece of sh*t domestic car again.

- Performance, True Drivers Car, Fuel Economy, OnStar
- Some slight dashboard noises, more supportive seats
Overall I love this car. Unless you drive the SS first hand you can't even imagine how much of "drivers" car this really is. Power is very good, handling is exceptional, brakes are very capable and tyhe fuel economy is unbeatable. What other car can offer you 260hp/260lb torque and get you 32+mpg on the highway and 27 around town? Don't believe the window sticker, this car is one of the few that can get better gas mileage than what is listed. The car also provides a lot of functionality with all seats folding flat, integrated bluetooth and hand-free phone via OnStar. Pioneer Stereo is very good with plenty of power. Trust me, just go drive an SS and you will be hooked. The other HHR models are more abount finctionality versus driving experience....read morehide

- Good design, fun to drive
- Not alot of leg room in the back. Driver visibility is reduced for taller people.
I love this car! I chose this over the other models because the window controls are more convient. In the LS model I had to readjust my seating and take my eyes off of the road to lower or raise the windows.
Fuel economy is okay on this model. I have had it 3 months and drive almost exclusivly in town. I get around 25 mpg.
Because the car sits so low to the ground, you have to be aware of pot holes and speed bumps. But, unlike my previous car (a Saturn Vue) my 18 month old son can climb in and out of it on his own.
If I could change anything, I would make it longer to increase leg room in the back, and wider to increase storage. But, the fold flat seats are a big help!...read morehide

- good fuel economy,handling,looks,style
- brakes sluggish at start up
Needs more identifiable trim showing it to be a tubo SS.Needs hood scoop like the old SS Chevelles.Needs dual exhuast ports, with low restiction mufflers.Don't be afraid to add more aggressive trim and exhaust sound.

- What a great package!! Excellent handling, good performance, and better than expected fuel economy!
- You need to be careful parking the SS version since the front end is a bit lower than the others.
We have always had good experience with the domestic (American) made cars. I bought a 2008 HHR SS as a replacement for a 2001 Pontiac Aztek that was totaled during a recent storm when a rather large tree came down on it an totaled it.
I wanted something that was flexible, had some storage space, and was more fuel efficient than the Aztek was (21/25mpg). My sister had purchased an 2008 HHR LS and was able to take it for a spin. I really liked the looks and it drove better than I expected. At first I was looking mostly with an eye toward economy than something more peppy. I had looked at several vehicles (even a couple by FORD for comparison) but decided on the HHR. When picking the options I discovered the SS version and that is the one I bought. The team at GM who worked on this got it right! It is a fantastic balance of performance, handling, and economy. It makes driving fun again. The SS actually has a smaller engine than the others (only a 2.0L) and gets a huge boost from the turbo. A pleasant surprise is that when you drive the car easy it gets great mileage. On the highway I've gotten 37-38 mpg as long as I keep to a reasonable speed. I expect that the extra ground effects and smaller displacement of the SS help with the mileage. If you drive it hard (which is fun) and keep the turbo going the mileage suffers but I'm content knowing that is is quick if I need it to be. I'd rather have it and not need the extra performance that need it and not have it! The only thing I still need to get used to is that the visibility isn't as good as the Aztek was. Also, if you get an SS give yourself extra space in front when you park it! The front is low and sticks out farther than you think. I haven't had any issues but warned my wife in case she needs to drive it.
The HHR came with a built-in phone but at the moment it is tied to Verizon. I've heard there are ways to port it to others (like Sprint, ATT, etc) but you have to track down the ESN # of the phone which is a pain. It would be nice if GM made it easier for owners to put the car on their existing cell phone plans instead of tied in with OnStar/Verizon. That was a cool feature FORD had where you could just use Bluetooth so the car could be the hands free headset for your regular cell phone.
This is a great vehicle and exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth looking at and taking for a test drive if you are looking for a new car....read morehide

- Good mileage & fast
- Cupholders,as everyone else has stated. All wheel drive would be nice too. Where's the leather?
Wow, what a car. Had the 07 2LT and really liked it, but the SS is far superior. It handles better and moves. A wonderful car to drive.I'm 6'5'' and fit fine in it. My daughter is now enjoying the 07.

- Looks, storage capacity & it's quickkkkkkkkkk!
- Too much use of plastic within the interior, no dual exhaust.
Have an LT2 which my wife now drives. Liked the car a lot but the one big deficiency was in the get up and go department. I knew this beforehand but it still drove me nuts. Having come from a '05 Mustang GT the lack of horsepower required a big adjustment on my part. So Chevy heard mine and many others plea and brought us the excellent HHR SS! Sharp looking, well built, good gas mileage and it moves. Bonus...the window switches are in the right spot, thanks Chevy. Now how about getting rid of some of the plastic? It would be nice if GM offered an interior upgrade as an option. Let's go Chevy you're so close......read morehide

- Great fuel economy with a Trubo, nimble, definitely an eye catcher.
- Needs a longer shifter, no factory Navigation.
Traded in my Daytona Charger for this because of the rising fuel costs and I couldn't be happier. It's very fun and sporty and the kids love it too. Got the Vistory Red to really stand out from the rest. If your looking you won't be disappointed, get an SS.
