2005 Chevrolet Impala

- The 2001 to 2005 model has a great body style and is a tough little roadrunner of a car.
- Needs faster acceleration, needs larger alternator, A bit pricey to get a very well equiped car.
I have been driving various models of the Impala for 5 years. I own a 2002 Impala LS and find it to be an extaordinary car. Through work I have driven the 2001, 2003 and 2005 Impala 9c1 police package car and found it to be a step above its counterparts. The Impala handles extremely well compared to other rear wheel drive autos. I have personally been struck by an SUV at 70 mph in the right front part of the car and pushed accross 4 lanes of traffic. Although the car sustained considerable damage to the front end, the engine continued to run and the car was drivable. A coworker was hit in the front end in his 2003 Impala and although the car was totaled he survived the crash with very minor injuries. The car was still running and drivable if not for the extensive cosmetic body damage and deployed airbags. I have also observed a 2005 Impala that has crashed into a swamp. Once pulled out and dried out, the car started up. After some body repair it was back on the road within a week....read morehide

- 30mpg white smoke capable, very upgradeable
- power from crusing at 35mph to wot is horrific, due mostly inpart by the trans. not down shifting.
overall the very best car i've ever owned. I love musclecars and this is not one of them. In todays world this is as close as you will get. four doors and it still beats them damn ponies!!

- GM Employee Discount, good power, great room, loww owner operations cost
- None, I bought a 2005 Impala SS, not a 1964 Impala SS.
Price, Price, Price.
Proformance. Excellent for my wifes daily driver. And I could trust the sales gang at Dyas Chevrolet in Auburn, Alabama. You see I started the sales transaction from Al Taqaddum, Iraq. Great dealership, give'um a try.

- Styling, nice features like leather, onstar, XM radio, moonroof & CD player, excellent safety rating
- Premium Fuel only, low resale value, available driver side air bag only, '04 SS models in black only
Purchased a new 2004 SS model in mid June of 2005 (dealer still had one on their showroom floor). This dealer didn't order any 2005's as Chevy has a planned body/engine change for the Impala in the 2006 model year. The supercharged engine provides for a consistant power band. Extremely large trunk, and pretty good fuel economy (18/28), but be aware that it does require premium gasoline for the best preformance (91 Octane). Should note that these do not come standard/optional with tinted glass (had a 3rd party tint mine). I also replaced the stock hi/low beam and fog lamp bulbs for Sylvania SilverStars. The 2005 SS model should be the same as the 2004 with the exception of color choice and front grill (some 2004's have a louvered grill-blue "bow tie", and some 2004's-all 2005's have a honeycombed grill-gold "bow tie")....read morehide

- Chrome Rims, Powerful Engine, Sleeper Apperance
- Havent found any....yet!
I drove my Impala SS of the showroom floor. BTW..I have a 2004 Indy Special Edition SS. It has performed well and it seems to be a very solid car. Interior is a bit dull, but it does have everything you would need (except the GPS) When I bought the car, the handling wasnt that good. The dealer had the tires set at 32psi, it was like riding on a loaf of bread. I kicked the pressure up to 40psi (max is 42) and what a difference. Now it handles like sports sedan.
This is the last year of this body style. Check the Chevy website for the 06 model, its horrific! If you are thinking of buying an Impala or SS, get it now before the 06 arrives!...read morehide

Great value for a great car. I would highly recommend this vehicle. Quick acceleration and room for 5 to be very comfortable.

- good fule exonomy
- tires cup which causes noise.
I am disappointed that the tires cup even though rotated as suggested by the MFG. I have found that other G.M. cars, such as the Grand Prix, do the same thing. It is a design defect that G.M. continues to ignore.
In addition, the SS has 160 mph speed rated tires but only has a top speed of 112 mph because of a computer chip. G.M. is misleading the public by giving the appearance that the car is fast when in fact the top speed is no faster than a plane Jane....read morehide
