- The 2001 to 2005 model has a great body style and is a tough little roadrunner of a car.
- Needs faster acceleration, needs larger alternator, A bit pricey to get a very well equiped car.
I have been driving various models of the Impala for 5 years. I own a 2002 Impala LS and find it to be an extaordinary car. Through work I have driven the 2001, 2003 and 2005 Impala 9c1 police package car and found it to be a step above its counterparts. The Impala handles extremely well compared to other rear wheel drive autos. I have personally been struck by an SUV at 70 mph in the right front part of the car and pushed accross 4 lanes of traffic. Although the car sustained considerable damage to the front end, the engine continued to run and the car was drivable. A coworker was hit in the front end in his 2003 Impala and although the car was totaled he survived the crash with very minor injuries. The car was still running and drivable if not for the extensive cosmetic body damage and deployed airbags. I have also observed a 2005 Impala that has crashed into a swamp. Once pulled out and dried out, the car started up. After some body repair it was back on the road within a week.
