The 1997 Malibu is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, available in two trims, the Base and the LS.
Upon introduction, the Base is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, I4, 150-horsepower engine. The LS is equipped with a standard 3.1-liter, V6, 155-horsepower engine that achieves 20-mpg in the city and 29-mpg on the highway. A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
