- Good fuel mileage and power. Well built and very reliable.
- Very large turing radius. Interior is very hot; hard to cool down.
Purchased As New
This is a company car that I picked up on 12/29/08. As of this writing (8/30/09)I have put over 23,000 trouble free miles on the car. It has had ZERO problems. No squeaks, no ratttles no mechanical problems - nothing. Fit, finish, and build quality are excellant. Very well built and very relaible. This car replaced a 2006 Impala V-6 ( which was also very reliable, well built car). I was concerned about stepping down from a V-6 to a 4-cylinder, as half of my driving is on Interstate highways. My concerns were unfounded. It has more than enough power to merge and pass - not as strong as the Impala but still more than adequate. The car has the 4-speed automatic transmission. It gets 23-24 MPG in town, 26-27 mixed and 29-30 on the highway. The handling is tighter and more controlled than the Impala - a lot less body lean. The ride is smooth and quiet.
The negatives. The car has a very wide turing radius. It takes a lot of area to turn around. The interior is very, very hot. I live in Central Floirda and the car is just plain HOT. All of the Malibu interiors are dark and it retains heat. The windshield and back glass have a sharp rake that lets in a lot of sun light. It takes a long time to cool down the interior. I also wish that there were more lumbar support in the drivers seat. The rear seats are spacious and quite comfortable (after you get the interior cooled down). All in all this is a very, very good car. I think this car is just as good as, if not better than, a Honda or Toyota. It's sad that GM had to file for bankruptcy. They are really making some good cars now. And this review is coming from a Ford man.
