- Pros
- nice looks and smooth ride
- Cons
- poor city fuel economy, shocks very clunky when cold temperatures

City fuel economy should be a lot better for a 4 cylinder model. Nice trim choices but center cup holders in a bad spot.

I'm getting a combined 20.6 mpg. I haven't taken a trip yet but expecting 26+ based on what I've seen. My last car (Audi A6) got the similar mileage but required premium fuel. The leather interior is nice - rear legroom is superior for the class. I had a 1988 Camaro 5.0 that was awful so I was (am) skeptical here but, so far, so good....read morehide

13,000 miles averaging 29 mpg mixed driving. Have gotten 33 mpg on highway. Comfortable and quiet. Fair acceleration. Better than my 2006 Honda Accord.

- Pros
- looks sporty, drives nice, especially on highway, comfortable to drive
- Cons
- brakes grind
Purchased As New
I bought this car brand new, and loved it from day one. My only complaints are that the brakes are already grinding, and the car has less than 7,000 miles on it! It is also not meant to be a city car, the stop and go really catches up and the engine hesitates at times. The gas mileage isn't even close to where it should be for city, i get 13mpg instead of the projected 22 mpg. When I bought this car, I was expecting to get 27mpg, this would be an improvement over my Jeep Liberty I traded in. Instead, I have a higher car payment with the same mpg, so I'm paying the same for gas. It is a comfortable car to drive, it has excellent lumbar support and is roomy enough for car seats. All in all, I'd probably be happy if I didn't have to drive in the city alll the time!!!...read morehide

- Pros
- Sharp looking, LTZ performance is spirited
- Cons
- Cockpit ergonomics, jam-packed under the hood

Our Malibu LTZ is my wife's daily driver and, for the most part, has lived up to our expectations when purchasing this car.
HOWEVER, I do have a warning for anyone considering the Malibu and it's the reason I'm taking time to write this review. If you burn out a headlamp (low or high beam) or a turn signal lamp up front, you cannot access them to replace the bulb without taking off the front bumper!! The dealer will quote you 2 hours labor plus the bulb(s)!! GM, this design was insane and probably done so to earn the dealers some extra $$$ down the road....read morehide14 out of 15 people found this review helpful.

I was unfortunate enough to be rear ended just prior to Christmas, but I WAS fortunate enough to get a Malibu as my rental car while I searched for another.
I need to say, I've never been a "Chevy" person. My brand, if I had to choose an American mfr, was Ford, but when the new Malibu came out, the styling seemed far more attractive than most Chevy's. I started reading reviews, and they were good, so I was interested. Having the chance to drive one only confirmed that.
I've owned Fords and a Chevy, but mostly import cars: Audi's(2) and Range Rovers(2). Of those, the range rovers had the best ride (despite being a 4X4) and the more recent Audi ('97)had amazing control and a "performance" feel to it. I've loved the recent Audi styling, too, which is perhaps the first factor I enjoyed about the Malibu. To me, it looks similar to an Audi A8L, the long wheelbase uber car, but brought down to the level many could afford. Interior space is fantastic. We have 2 kids, and they had more room with the car seats in the back than in our Mazda 5 wagon. Carrying adults in the back seat was downright luxurious speaking of legroom. Tons of it! And the seats in back were comfortable, too!
The interior was decent to better than average, considering price. Some hard plastic, some padded plastic, not leather seats, but not unattractive either. I really liked the design, though. Again, it reminded me of my Audi. Clean lines, lots of space, a "flow" to the design, the whole interior made pretty good sense. My only complaints were: No flat surfaces to put non-standard cups, and the radio volume knob was hard to reach (for me) with the steering wheel at comfortable distance (though I think I'm pretty averagely proportioned). That could have been solved with radio controls on the steering wheel, but there weren't any: My only other complaint regarding the interior of this car. Could be the trim level.
My driving impression was pretty good. In almost all situations, the Malibu was great. In very slick snowy roads, the traction control and intelligent tire choice made it too easy. I never once felt a lack of grip. Body roll was minimal, suspension was comfortable and smooth, yet firm enough to inspire confidence through any turn. The car never became unsettled, regardless of road condition. I didn't "push" too much really, since it wasn't my car, but under normal driving conditions to 20-30% above recommended speeds, the car never felt uncomfortable or nervous. Mileage was decent: 28-ish MPG all around.
I don't know if it was traction control or not, but my one complaint was the shifting, specifically between 1st and 2nd, especially around corners. I had the Auto, and while it had a "manual" mode, the controls weren't in the usual places or particularly intuitive. Right turn lanes at stop lights were the worst: the Malibu would start well, then go into sort of an indecisive period where it couldn't figure out 1st or 2nd, and finally shift, hard into 2nd, jerking you around the corner. It was particularly bad when in a hurry. Accelerating straight on was alright, though the indecisiveness lingered. Once solidly in 2nd, heading up above 3500 rpm's, the car was great. Plenty of power for what it is supposed to be: a family car. Its NOT a race car, and I'd never have squared off with an Audi S model, BMW, tuner punk or Corvette, but it never felt under powered.
All in all, I really enjoyed my time with the Malibu. If I were in a position to buy one, I'd do it. No regrets. Excellent value, great ride, nice looks. Certainly worth the money I'd say. Really great job, GM! I love it.
I had the Malibu for nearly 1000 miles, 3 weeks or so. In that time, we had heavy snow, rain and sun....read morehide6 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Sporty feel, great acceleration, killer looks
- Cons
- No "home link" option

Bought this car new (2011), got a great deal on a loaded V-6 LTZ. When compared to its rivals, I got a lot more car for the dollar. I was surprised about the car's sporty feel to it, nice tight steering and great acceleration. The car has more interior room then I expected too, this is not a big car, but seems to fit my family nicely. There is ample trunk space but the small trunk lid makes it somewhat difficult to access. Overall, this is an unexpected very nice car, and I am glad I made the choice....read morehide
