I've had this car for about 1 month, I leased it last month (April 2012) and am extremely pleased so far. Its lease rates are very competitively priced since it's residual is very high due to it's great gas mileage.
It feels extremely quiet inside because Chevy put a lot of sound dampening material and seals in the car when designing it and you can definitely tell as the car rides very smooth and very quiet. It rides like a much more expensive car. It uses the same platform as the new european based Buick's and you can really tell when driving this car that it's a higher-class car than the old malibu.
The exterior design has a very muscular look and the rear lights have a "camaro-style" influence to them and gives a sporty look. The interior is very beautiful too as it has light blue ambient LED lighting throughout the front dashboard to give a very high class and expensive look to it and the 7 inch touchscreen is really a nice feature. It even has all the infotainment features like bluetooth, pandora, xm satellite.
The E-assist (engine turns off at stop lights or in traffic) really works great. I used to drive a Honda civic hybrid and it was very jerky and rough riding. The engine turning on/off in the new Malibu really is seamless; you really can't tell it's a "hybrid-style" engine and the engine turning on/off is almost undetectable.
The sticker says it should be 25MPG city, and 37 highway. I find that very accurate. The 25MPG really is attainable in the city since the engine turns off at idling and stop lights, that is a big fuel saver. My wife's hyundai says 24MPG city but I find that really hard to attain.
One side of the backseat does fold down to allow you to hold long objects through the trunk; which is very handy.
Overall this a really huge step up for a mainstream Chevy vehicle and it feels like a very high-class car; and can go head-to-head with a Camry / Accord/ Altima etc. I read some negative reviews online from some car magazines but please remember this is not to be compared to a Acura, BMW, Lexus, etc. this is a $25,000 car. I have driven a 2008 Ford Fusion, 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2005 VW Jetta's, and this is by far superior to those and it feels really quiet and solid inside while driving too.
