Bought it in Feb 2o12... have had mutiple problems with it.... 3 OnStar batteries plus module replaced; rear brake cylinder & shoes replaced; sway bar links replaced (apparently they are made of plastic); and last but by no means least, I have had work done on the transmission which has not fixed the problem! Not very pleased with the new Sonic or GM!...read morehide

I bought the 1.4 turbo, 6 speed and from 2500 rpm this car pulls well, more than I thought it would from 74 cubic inch engine. I'm going from a truck to a Sonic so I LOVE the mpgs. I scored reliability as excellent because I've only had the car for a few months and have only 4500 on the ticker and so far not a single problem, (too early to know long term). This is an economy car so keep that in mind when reviewing it. I paid just a tick over $16k, power windows, cruise, tilt, bluetooth, CD, USB port, steering wheel mounted controls, great MPG, and a blast to drive, plus very quiet for a car in this class. You get a lot of bang for your buck in my opinion, I highly recomend the Sonic. (1.4 turbo)...read morehide

I have the 1.4 Turbo 6 spd Auto. Setting the cruise at 60mph I averaged 42 MPG. At 70MPH I averaged 40MPG. The best Mpg I received was at 55mph at 45mpg. This was with the A/C off and on a flat level road with no stops for 15 miles with perfect weather conditions. After reading some reviews about mpgs I was a little nervous but the car exceeded my expectations. I did have to drive very conservately to get this numbers....read morehide

- Pros
- Handling, interior space, interior comfort, smooth ride.
- Cons
- Chevy seems to have exaggerated MPGs by being vague

For those of you saying you don't get very good gas mileage, I think you bought a Sonic with a 1.8 engine. I have the 1.4 turbo and so for I've put 129 miles on the car. I left the dealership with a full tank, and just stopped by the gas station out of curiosity (the tank was 3/4 full). I put 3.6 gallons on my tank. That's 35.83 MPG average that I've gotten out of the car so far, and I put 90% of those miles on my car during a pleasure cruise today where I drove UP A MOUNTAIN and back down. If I was driving strict city and highway, I suspect I would be getting better.
So I will have to keep track and update this, but it seems to me that if you want the ADVERTISED fuel economy, you'd better get the 1.4 L turbo engine with a MANUAL (I have automatic) and be careful with your driving.
Other than the MPG issue, the car is just incredible. I paid 1670 (a little more with financing) and I have synced my phone to the bluetooth, which works REALLY well, the CD/sound deck is INCREDIBLY easy to use and has better sound quality than other compacts / subcompacts I test-drove. My Sonic is XM radio capable, has buttons on the steering wheel for cruise control, changing tracks, volume, and taking calls. I found these buttons to be VERY intuitive and easy to use-- in fact, I don't know if I could go back to a life without steeringwheel buttons. I've been totally spoiled by this car.
My dad, who is 6'2, fits comfortably in the passenger seat. I am short (5'5), so I have the seat cozied up to the steering wheel, but my 5'8 mother could fit behind me-- she said she was very comfy.
My 2 year old daughter's car seat fits nicely into the back. The back doors are HUGE, so getting my daughter in/out is very easy. Today I folded down the bench with my daughter's carseat in the car (I have it LATCH'ed in behind me). It gave me SO much room for groceries, my guitar, luggage, whatever! I am used to driving a Honda Passport (small SUV) with lots of cargo area, so this was important to me.
As far as handling, the Sonic made it up a steep pass without a hitch. It was raning, too. The auto-traction was wonderful-- I never once felt a loss of traction. Coming down the mountain, I put the transmission in "manual mode" (it is automatic) and cruised between 3-4 gear, which saved me unnecessary braking. The steering is tight; the noise is minimal.
This is hands-down the most fun and economic vehicle i've ever driven. I will update this review in the future if anything goes wrong....read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

I like my car. I got it in the orange. She looks beautifu. The major problem I have with ut is the gas miliage, it never goes above 26mpg which is disappointing since it should be a lot more. Ive only had for 5 months and 5600 miles and it has a terrible rattle comining from underneath going to have serviced next week'...read morehide
