- Very nice looking, lots of power, SO many nice features, nice size
- gas mileage (we knew this going in)
I just got the 2008 Chrysler Aspen after my husband totaled my 2005 Ford Expedition. I LOVE this car! (I LOVED my Expedition, too, but I like this just a little bit more) We have three kids, ages 8, 6, and 3, so car seat/booster was a consideration, as was long trips, space inside, etc. This is our "family car." I also have to drive carpool so the third row is essential for us. I got the captain's chairs in the second row. So far, it is VERY comfortable, and all the neighbors think its either a Lincoln Navigator or Cadillac Escalade--it looks that nice on the outside (I got the Cool Vanilla). Everything inside so far just seems to be a step up in quality from my Expedition, which was an Eddie Bauer. I feel as though I've bought a luxury car, even though the car payment is lower! My husband insisted on getting the Hemi, and he was right. The power is definitely better than the Expedition. I also like the fact that it isn't quite as wide (easier to park), although I don't feel a significant difference in comfort inside. In fact, the lumbar support is better than any car I've driven (I have also had a Toyota and a Jeep Grand Cherokee).
The added features you can get on this vehicle are incredible. It came with the backup sensors (also on my Expedition) AND a camera (which I didn't have), and the DVD is so much easier than my other car because it loads in the front, but the kids can control it with the backseat remote. The Sattelite radio & Nav are also nice, and the voice recognition feature is fantastic--you can make a phone call without even getting your phone out of your purse.
I would recommend to anyone purchasing that you negotiate the best price for the most features--the dealership was willing to work with us as the auto industry is really, really suffering. (Get them to throw in as much as you can!)
My husband, who just got a new car in Sept, is insanely jealous. He loves this car, too.
I am wondering now why Chrysler isn't going to make the Aspen for 2010--it is a GREAT car and they should have been marketing it more heavily. I didn't know about it until I started researching vehicles comparable to the Expedition. It is an "upscale" Dodge Durango, which they will continue to make, but the "upscale" is what makes it great--for the price, you can't find anything else to compare to it.
