Mostly I drive city miles and I have been averaging about 23.5 miles to the gallon. About a month ago we took 1200 mile trip and during that we averaged about 31 milles to the gallon. Very spacious interior easily fit 4 large adults and a childs booster seat. The trunk has room to fit most anything one may want to put in it. Overall, I absolutely love my new car....read morehide

i bought a 2009 on the clunker program, sticker was 26500.00, 4500 off from dodge, 4500.00 from gov for trade and 1500.00 off from dealer
good deal right??? WRONG total price 16500.00 BUT had to pay tax on 26500.00 = 1850.00, then in 6mos i fig i had some great trade in value seeing i got 10500.00 off sticker..NOT!!!!! car value was only 15900.00 after 6mos. then the IRS taxed the 4500.00 from the gov as income at 25%, then to top it off the dealer NEVER offered the recycle value of my trade to me, whitch i was to get as more down by law......read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- More comfortable ride, and a bit larger size overall, than most cars with an I4
- Brakes create a herky-jerky stop feeling; Accel more sluggish than expected.

Frankly, we started out wanting the Charger but found it to be outside our price range. It would have been easy to head to a Nissan or Toyota dealer, etc. at that point. However, when we looked, the Avenger offered just as much vehicle for the money as those brands, so we decided to stick round. I don't regret doing so.
Since we were trying to stay near the base price, one of our concerns was "creature comfort," i.e. ride, noise, options. This vehicle carries numerous options such as the pwr. group that would have been at an added price with other brands. My biggest complaint has been acceleration. I expected more from an I4 rated at 173 hp. It barely outperforms our prev. vehicle (I4 Outback with AT) despite having 30 more hp. I'll conceded that this vehicle is a bit heavier, which actually turns out to be an advantage. The engine runs very smoothly and the 4 speed AT is probably as smooth and quiet as as I've run into in a car in this price range. As to the brakes, they are good but I find that it is hard to get the car to a nice smooth stop because the brakes tend to grab on the first touch between disc and pad. Not a big issue but noticeable. The ride comfort is above average: more leg and head rm, less hwy. noise, and less bouncing and jumping over bumps and potholes than you'd expect. Trunk is fairly generous. Visibility around the sides and back is also better than average; the driver sits a little higher in this vehicle, which helps. The steering has a nice, light feel which makes parking relatively easy. Although it is early, we've already put 11K miles on our car without any repair or fit and finish issues. Mileage has been up to the EPA ratings +/- 1. The styling does not impress you as a smaller Charger and is rather stodgy. Since we'll have to look at this for some years to come, I'd rather be too conservative than too radical. Sound system pretty decent as far as standard equipment is concerned. For the money, this car has worked out pretty well for us....read morehide
