- Outstanding roominess, especially legroom, for entry level car. Great fuel economy.
- Slightly anemic power in base model, though not bad at all for an entry level car.
This car is outstanding. My wife and I haven't had a moment's buyers remorse. It has great fuel economy. It has been reliable for us, and we haven't had one problem with it. We own the most basic model, and even that is just full of small touches that show how much thought went into this vehicle. There are multiple glove boxes, lots of other storage, knee airbags for the driver, lighted cupholders, and the list goes on and on. It seems like everywhere I turn in the cabin Dodge has created a spot for me to store things in. And the car handles well, is reasonably quiet, and is fun enough and good looking enough that my wife actually buys it.
However, perhaps the most important Caliber attribute is this: It is exceptionally roomy for an entry level car, and totally outclasses the Fit, Yaris, Focus, Rio, Accent, etc in this area. I'm 6'2'', and with the seat all the way back I can barely touch the pedals. In cars like the Rio, I could not get enough legroom, even with the seat back as far as it could go. I was even able to take five adults on a work outing in this car without anyone complaining, and several of us were quite tall.
This car is really a great buy for the money, and I think it's the little known secret of the current crop of cars. When most people think entry level car they think of a Focus, which is a brand that has been around a lot longer than the Caliber's two years. This one is worth a look, though, and with Chrysler putting their money behind its reliability (lifetime powertrain warranties on all new cars), I think I couldn't have made a better choice for my money.
