- Roomy interior, strong stereo
- Poor fuel economy, unstable ride with wind, slow as granny, blind spots, ugly
I rented this car last weekend on a drive from Atlanta, GA to Charleston, SC. I rented because my car has high miles on it. I always try to give American cars a chance since I drive a Honda and am admittedly impartial to Japenese and select German cars. I was impressed with how roomy this car is and how strong the stereo was. However, I was very disappointed with the gas mileage. I couldn't make it on a 4.5 hour drive from Atlanta to Charleston on 1 tank of Gas!!!! Had I driven my Accord, historically, I would have had more than 1/4 of a tank of gas when I arrived in Charleston. The gas tank is too small and the mileage is not good enough on the Caliber. I read the reviews on here praising the gas mileage of the Caliber. What, are you kidding me? I'm sorry, Honda's gas mileage must have spoiled me because I was not impressed by the Caliber. Dodge is going to have to step up if it wants to compete with the quality of popular Japenese cars in this segment. Second. The headrest are too high for good visibility. This car was not designed well for lane changing and/or passing. SCARY! Lastly, a little wind and this car is blown all over the highway. I felt very unsafe as I was blown from side to side down I-20 and I-26. All I kept thinking is how much better my Accord drives, performs and handles and how I wish I had driven it despite it having high miles. Overall, I was not impressed with this car at all. I know my Accord cost more, but it's 10 years old and out performs a brand new Caliber...sad! This may be a good first car for a beginner but that's it. It's not very attractive looking either. I felt like a soccer mom in this car. Yuck!
