It is a good feeling indeed to really love your car. This car is exciting to drive, extremely confortable, very handy for groceries. I have to say I love this car.
There is a sweet spot here that Dodge found with a creative and unique design that is overlooked by many. Don't confuse the SRT4 with the other Calibers. Everything is different from the engine to the suspension to the seats and brakes and wheels and exhaust....
When you see the car it has a distinct appearance that you either love or hate. This car is bold looking. Get in and you find the SRT4 seats are the most comfortable seats of any car due to the way they grip your body and allow you to be positioned well for driving. This car is totally different then the other Calibers.
The motor is a small but efficient 4 cylinder that is a joy to work with as you move through the gears keeping the RPMs matched to the transmission so the precise clutch can quickly click through the gears. (You will understand what I mean when you try to break the 6.0 sec mark for a 0-60 sprint.) This car rewards good driving skill.
The interior is very quiet. Much quieter than the other Calibers. The F1 tires are the quietest (I drove many SRT4s with different tires some tires are very loud on this car.) The 19" F1 tires are very good and sticky. You need 19" tires to clear the big brake calibers. Some folks have gone to 18" rims but the clearance is too small for my taste.
The big brakes are outstanding and give you the feeling of being completely in control and able to stop the car on a dime anytime, anywhere. When I drive other cars now I feel that the mediocre brakes of most cars stand out and make me feel a bit uncomfortable now.
I drive the car to work every day. On the highway the in-dash computer (that computes gas mileage, miles to empty, time for a 0-60 sprint and lots of other great stuff) tells me that I am getting 33 MPG when I cruise in sixth gear. Yes it has 6 forward gears. The transmission is a German made (same company that makes one of the Porsche transmissions).
Outstanding sweet ride. I love this car.
Please ignore the negative press you will find about Calibers and the SRT4. Like I say you either love it or hate it. Too bad the haters tend to be the most motivated to write long reviews bashing the thing.
