I recently had the chance to drive a 2009 Challenger R/T. The car is great hands down. The ride quality for a sports car is a step above the rest. I have owned the new Mustang and the road noise and feel of the bumps is not here in the Challenger. The Challenger has the ability to feel the road without feeling it bumps and pots. It does this through it's great independant rear suspension system. This also makes for amazing handleing for a car it's size and high.
Interior is also a plus. Sports car comfortable with easy to read gauges and quick to reach controls. Pistol grip shift is nice with short throws. It does feel alittle choppy though. The interior room is also compairable to that of the Mustang. Limited as with any sports car, but still better than that of the Camaro.
Exterior styling is, without a doubt, the best retro throw back on the market. The Mustang did a good knod to it's predicessor. The Camaro looked as if it was going that way then an obsessed member of George Lucas' design crew snuck in and went future crazy with it. The Challenger is quite a different story. Inside this car you are truly in the new century, but once you step out your right back in the glory days of American Muscle. This car is the spitting image of it's father. Some people, however, find this to be a problem. They feel that it is too much like the original and not enough of it's own car. To those people I say,"go hop back in your Prius and give the real good ole boys the road back." Whereas the Dodge Charger (still a good car) was a discrace to the Charger name plate, the Challenger deserves it. While with the new Camaro you can walk around the car and say, "well, I love this, but I wish this was a little different." You won't find that in the new Challenger. A++
The con for me however was the fun factor. There is virtually non of that pavement pounding, road eating, monster growl from the V8 underneath that massive hood let inside the car. When I drive a sports car with a big engine, I want to know that I'm in a sprts car with a big engine. Acceleration fwhile at highway speeds is slightly less than impressive as well. Even though it is a plus above the competition, the lack of outside noise does take away from the feel of the ride. In terms of the handling, power, and overall look of the car it meets or exceeds that of the Mustang, but the Mustang is a far more fun car to drive.
