- Good looking, roomy
- Mediocre performance, poor MPG, poor build quality
Purchased As New
My wife fell in love with the looks and wanted one. We chose the 3.5 thinking we would get better MPG with good performance. In the real world, though, the 3.5 is poorly matched with the five speed transmission, and the rear gearing is too tall for the engine. This causes the transmission to hunt, which is very annoying, and the engine is a pig. In the end, we would have done better to get the Hemi. Bear in mind that we both are very conservative drivers, and this review is not from the perspective of a muscle car wannabee. I've owned muscle cars, and this is no muscle car. The OEM Continental tires were down to the wear bars at under 20K miles, despite good maintenance and rotation(there is a class-action suit against Continental over these tires)which caused the premature expense of tire replacement. The transmission developed a leak at the front, which is common, and was repaired under warranty. The engine developed a tick which grew to a knock, and turned out to be a broken rockershaft on the left cylinder head. This is also a common problem, and Chrysler tried their best to deny the problem. This meant the car was out of service for quite a while while the dealer jumped through warranty hoops. It is full of rattles, and has a noise in the front suspension that the dealer has not been able to locate. Recently, a cheesy plastic component in the park interlock system broke, and is not available as a service part. This occurred while I was out of town, and my wife could not get the car out of park. This type of failure is not rectified by the override button hidden in the console, by the way, and is another common failure. Chrysler expects you to spend hundreds of dollars for a new shifter assembly. Fortunately, I found a work-around fix on the internet and made the repair myself. Overall, a very, very disappointing automobile at only 31K miles. We're sorry we bought it, but are stuck with it now, given the dismal resale value. Be wise, look elsewhere!
