After finding out I was pregnant, my 2002 Stratus wasn't going to be enough of a vehicle, so off car shopping we went. I'm an avid Dodge fan after owning a Monaco and two Strats. My husband unfortunately, is an Chevy man and his main concern was power and luxury. He found it hard getting out of his corvette and climbing into a 4-cy Stratus. He was dead set on a GMC Denali or a Chevy Tahoe with Autoride. We drove the Volkswagon Tourag, Volvo, Esclade, Trailblazer, Equinox, Tahoe, Avalanche and Denali. After deciding to wait I saw the Durango on the Chevy lot, I said no harm in driving it, I knew that the old Durango's were crappy with Gas milage and had a rough ride. Even he was amazed after we climbed out. The 5.7 Hemi took the spotlight, overpowering the fact that this vehicle was loaded to the hilt. The only thing we found out it didn't have was the handsfree cell kit. Heated seats, DVD player, everything. And after finding out the price, because it did have 20k on it, there was no doubt in my mind. I paid less for a loaded 2004 Durango than I would have for a Trailblazer. And look what I have.
Now after owning it for 3 months, the only complaint is the gas milage. But considering going from a 4 banger it isn't bad. We are averaging 16 mpg usually 18.1 on interstate, but sometimes as low as 12 in the city. After only having it for a couple of weeks we did take it in and have a new exhaust on it. No sense having a Hemi and not being able to hear it. We took of the HUGE muffler and fitted with with a nice medium-quite Magnaflow. I still get a few shocked looks when I can't resist revving it up.
But I couldn't be happier with this vehicle, with the exception that I am constantly washing it. It seems that Road Grime has a real affection towards it. I strongly recommend this vehicle, you can't go wrong with the value for your money. It has tons of storage room, just lay down the seats, 7 people ARE comfortable in it. The very rear seat is comfortable and you don't have your knees to your chin.
The hubby is happy with the power and the roominess as well, he hates the grill that does, I admit, resemble a MAC truck and his wallet is hating the gas stations, but with dual airbags and side curtain airbags, I'm safe and the baby is safe. What more can you ask for?
