Purchased As New
I get a new one of these every other year for work. It's a decent car. We don't get the fully loaded versions, but we get satellite radio, so I'm happy. First, the positives. This, especially in 2011 form, is a very competent, well priced vehicle. Before 2011, when it had to old interior and engine/transmission, IT WAS WAY OVERPRICED. Don't buy anything before 2011. trust me. The old interiors were horrible - cheap, hard plastics. the new one is SO much better, but still not top of class. My sister's Odyssey has a much nicer interior. By miles.
Now, for the stuff that needs work. The brakes absolutely suck. My Brother in law runs a tire shop that does a lot of fleet cars. Caravans are ALWAYS in there for front brakes before 15k miles. That's right, 15k. I've been in there as early as 17k, and I'm not hard on the car at all. It's the rotors - they use the same rotors on a 4,200 lb minivan as they do a 3,000 compact car (dodge caliber). It's pathetic. I personally go through 2 sets a year, but I drive about 40k a year for work. for the average family, two brake jobs in three years (40k miles) is not a good thing. Next, even though its 1,000x better than the old one, the new interior still has flaws. some material is still cheap, and there are some squeaks now athat I've past the 15k mark. Also, Chrysler paint has always been horrible. It's so orange-peely it's hard to believe it was done by a machine. And although "stow-n-go" comes in handy, the seats were made smaller to be easier to fold; so if you have a larger person, it may not be too comfortable for them. But whatever, its a company car and I don't pay for it. If I was paying, I'd have an Odyssey.
