- Only good for 150,000 miles (Designed obsolescence)
Purchased As New
I had my Intrepid for 8.5 years and had a total of 154,000 miles racked up. I used to be very fond of this car, because it was so reliable, easy to drive, good handling and it was a good buy at the time. Fast forward to 2012 and all the mechanical problems started to erupt. I had to replace the tie-rod iron bushings. 2 months later I had to replace the ebtire Valve body in the transmission. But that wasn't all: I needed to replace the Heating core, Water pump, radiator, thermostat and some hosing which all totalled to more than $3,000. Being that i already had over 150,000 miles, why would I want to dump all those repair costs on a car that was nearly a decade old? forget it. I had to retire this workhorse.
The total cost of ownership was excellent during my days with my Intrepid, but the time came when it had to be replaced.
