2008 Dodge Nitro
There are 10 user reviews for the SXT 4X2 trim shown below
- By far the most vehicle you can get for the price. Standard features on base SXT impressive.Warranty
- Ride is definitely a truck ride. Base model SXT has molded in contrasting color bumper and facia.
Purchased As New
Bought this Nitro because 1) I like Chrysler products, 2) I will only buy American and 3) Definitely the best value (most vehicle for the money). This Nitro is a truck based SUV. I traded in a Dodge Dakota so that is what I wanted. This being said, it does ride similar to a pick up truck. My wife has a Mercury Mariner Premier which is an extremely nice SUV, that rides like a car. However the Mariner was about $8,000. more. If you know you want a soft riding car like SUV, look at the Mariner but be ready to pay the steeper price. You cannot find this much vehicle in an SUV for this price, trust me, I looked around. Dodge was offering about $4000. in incentives ($2000. loyalty, $1000. Midwest Region bonus cash, $1000. to finance through a credit union). The standard features which are impressive include 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, roll over mitigation, power windows / locks, front and side airbags, am/fm/cd/satellite radio stereo. Mileage combined city and highway is improving, started at 13 mpg average, now at 14.5 mpg average with almost a thousand miles driven. This is a great midsize truck for the money. You cannot beat lifetime powertrain warranty, no other manufacturer offers it....read morehide

- Looks, Fuel Economy, Value for the money, Safety Features; Sirrius Radio
- Transmission shifts with a jerk, Sound system
I bought the Nitro for my wife because she won't drive my truck, so I traded my truck and got a Nitro for her. When compared to Nissan Titan, I thought it won't have enough room, but I was surprised that it is comfortable with enough room for 5 people. Pick-up at the start is good. BUT the Transmission is too jerky, especially shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. It does shift smoothly 75% of the time. I like the looks of teh vehicle so does my wife. I think it is well worth the money, just wish I could have bought a 4X4, but the dealer didn't have any. I've bought 2 new Chrysler products before but didn't ahve good luck with them, hope this one will last longer, also it has Lifetime Power Train Warranty, I can sleep little better....read morehide

- V-6 cyliner - reasonable fuel economy
- ride is alittle rough
I love my NITRO!! I just bought a 2008 2 wks ago, got a great deal. It's fully loaded, satelite radio, etc., etc.
It's a beautiful SUV, I get looks all the time when I am driving it. The mileage is reasonable, I have no complaints, I just drive to work, and back home. Make errands, the usual.
It's a V-6 cylinder, and have a lot of zoom power.
Ride is alittle rough, but, my wheels are 17", I feel so safe in it, it's roomy and I just love it!!...read morehide

- good looks, good performance, good ride, good fuel economy
- No extended warranty.
I bought a 2007 in April 2008 that had only 2300 miles on it. I thought that maybe something could be wrong with it but with it still fully warranted I took the chance. I couldn't be more satisfied with the vehicle. There was nothing wrong with it. Then I thought that maybe the fuel economy was bad. But to my surprise I get more then the EPA highway and city miles per gallon. In fact the fuel economy (23+ MPG average is the best I have ever got on a 6 cylinder SUV. I am totally satisfied with the vehicle. The only negative is that when the vehicle was new it had a lifetime warranty but lifetime warrantys are not transferrable. Before the lifetime warranty when into effect there was a 7 year/70000 mile warranty that was transferrable. I'm in between warrantys and I think that Dodge should make some sort of adjustment in cases like this....read morehide

- great value and warranty!!!! good ground clearance and handling, good acceleration
- not the best fuel efficiency, rare glitchy idling with manual trans. where engine slowly revvs
Overall, this is a great vehicle especially for the price! Lifetime powertrain warranty adds peace of mind. Accelerates great, smooth and relatively quiet operation even at fast highway speeds. I've had a rare issue with the engine computer causing the engine to continue revving slowly until about 3K RPM's when I put the 6-speed manual transmission in neutral. But this has only happened a few times in the 6 months I've owned it. Sharp looks, comfortable ride, good handling for an SUV, decent fuel economy (~21MPG with most of my driving freeway speeds)....read morehide

- awesome looks, MyGIG is good, U-Connect works great, good acceleration, good fuel economy.
This car truly sets the bar for small SUV's. I recently purchased a Toyota RAV4 for my wife, but it was a lemon and I received my money back. (Just for the record, I will never buy another Toyota again.) We had no idea about the Nitro until passing a Dodge dealership. We stopped, and my wife and I both fell in love with it. The styling is a high point. The looks are rugged, but pleasing to the eye. We took it for a test drive, and we were delighted what we found. The car was both responsive and fun to drive. The steering wheel gives enough feedback for you to know what the tires are doing, and it turns on a dime. The brakes are powerful, and stopped us quickly. The interior is a high point. There is acres of space, all designed in a retro fashion. The U-Connect works well, so you don't even have to take your hands off the wheel to make a call. The seats are comfortable, and the Dodge dealership is both quick and pleasant to work with. Based on our experience with the Nitro, we will definitely buy another Dodge....read morehide

- incredible bargain, good fuel economy, good acceleration, great style
I have had my Nitro for three months. I love the distinctive look and the looks it draws. I suggest a 6-speed manual to avoid the documented transmision problems. I bought mine as a dealer special for an incredible price...$16,800. Even the closer was impressed. 20 miles per gallon regularly. An amazing set of standard features...best deal ever!...read morehide

- Fuel economy in town 18mpg and highway 21.8mpg. Like the style of the vehicle.
I have had my Nitro for one month and I love it. It has met allof my expectations. I was looking at Ford Edge and Taurus X until I saw the Nitro. The price was right and in the range I wanted. The dealer was easy to deal with
