- good price on the car, sporty, great gas saver
- transmission chatter
My wife purchased this car, she thought it looked nice. It had 24,985 miles on it when I sent it to the shop for the transmission chatter when going into gear and banging into low gear when coming to a stop. I spent two hours at the dealer where they had to do a computor update for the trans. The Technician said drive it for 500 miles and after that if it takes the update it should be ok. Well the first 500 miles went well, and now it's doing the same thing. I will now make another appointment for this 2006 auto. I Have owned a 1991 Plymouth voyager with the 4 cyl engine that I bought new in Germany and used it for 11 years, drove it from the East Coast to the Gulf Shores to the West Coast to the Great Pacific Northwest and back to the East coast during those 11 years and it had never let me down. I finally traded it in and have not been statisfied since. Chrysler really needs to work this out on the Stratus, there were several people with the same problem getting their cars worked on. I'm just wondering how many Stratus owners are having the same problem?...read morehide

- Great MPG, Spacious, Comfortable, Smooth Drive, Powerful for a 4 cyc
- weird front cup holders, Engine Block trouble???
We purchased our 2006 R/T Stratus from Car Max (Independence, Missouri) used with high mileage for the year- it had 20,000 miles on it in Oct 2006. However, we got an awesome deal on it and was able to get the Car Max warranty in addition to the factory warranty which would end at 30,000 miles.
Today, (January 2007), our statrus is in the shop getting a new ENGINE!
We've had no problems with the car the first few months. Very spacious and practical for our family (mom, dad, 2 year old boy).
When my husband got to work this week, he noticed oil was gushing from the car. We had just had the oil changed a few days prior to this so we took it back to car max and had it checked out.
our new car's engine block had cracked!!!
Since we were still under the factory warranty, Dodge is putting a brand new engine into our car free of charge. NO parts or labor costs to us. And they are extending our factory warranty to 100,000 miles! FOR FREE!
Car Max allowed us a loaner car for the full two weeks that the car will be in the shop at no charge to us.
Had we purchased this car from another dealer, i fear the results would not have been so wonderful! Whether I will buy another Dodge I have not decided, but I know forsure I will always buy from Car Max in the future.
I love the car itself. Other's have complained about gas mileage but we were actually shocked that we've gotten such great gas mileage! 28mpg highway on a recent four hour trip through Kansas!!!
There is also plenty of room for the three of us and all of our 2 year olds toys and a guest to ride comfortably in the car!
One thing I dislike is the front cup holders- they are too low and hard to find in the dark- also what's with the weird long skinny compartment??? i usually put my palm or my phone there- not sure what it's for though!
The performance is great! Acceleration A+ for a 4 cyc!!!!
Our previous car was a 4 cyc Grand Am, and this car way out performs it!!!...read morehide

- Overall good looking car, handling
- horrible acceleration, electrical problems, heating/cooling problems.
I have owned three cars now, and this is by far the worst one. The suggested 30 mpg highway isn't even close to what i get, which is around 16-17. After four months, i had no tire tread left and left on tire completely flat with no holes or leaks in it. Acceleration is poor until 3,500 rpm's is reached. during this four month period, my heating/cooling controls began to only work on the highest setting. And the interior lights would flick on and off when i would hit a bump on the highway and randomly dim and brighten the dashboard lights....read morehide

- good stying, cool hot rod
- old looking dashboard
although the toyota camery is the number one best selling passenger car in the U S, the styling is not the choice for consumers. thats where the dodge stratus r/t sedan comes in play. sporty styling, smoze looking hot rod with no unnessasary lines and a great hourse power boost to it.only down side is the old looking dashboard if I was the incharge the noen 2001-2005 will do just find....read morehide

- very good on gas, gas and more gas the factory radio sounds good pick up speed at the drop of a dime
- none at this time
this car is a pleasure to have you dont have to worry about the hussle and bussle of not getting there on time because this car can get you there in a flash (the need for speed). the car also have a classy look but at the same time a sporty look how nice is that 2 in 1. if you are thinking about this car i really give this car very high ratings because after all it still saves on gas. now that you can't beat that ....read morehide

- 2.4L Turbo, Great stereo, comfy seats, sporty look and feel
- bad fuel economy
Let me say this before I give my opinion about this car. The guy who wrote his piece was renting an SXT (base) stratus. It would be the same if he was renting the base model of any car. For me, its important to consider the best version of any car. It is the car as it was meant to be. As you may see, my stratus has a 2.4L Turbo. I live in Mexico, and the only option for R/T is the 2.4L Turbo as comes in the turbocharged PT. Same motor. It is light years ahead of the V-6 in Torque, and HP. 250 and 225 respectively. I have no problems on the mountains here. I believe if you are going to opt for a base model of just about any car 20,000 dollars and below, you shouldnt expect a Ferrari. You should expect a base model Stratus, period. 2.4 liters is nothing if not weak, and unimpressive. Read: Base Model. For those of you who dont know about cars, the SXT is a trim package. You can add features, and the price goes up. Flashy wheels do not make for a stronger motor. SXT+4banger=Base model. You want bang for your buck? Buy a neon srt4. You`ll be pulling the fingernails out of your steering wheel. I love my stratus (srt4) R/T, but i would never buy the base model of any car. I have more respect for myself than that....read morehide

- Looks, comfort, handling
- Slow pick up from 4 cylinder
Nice looking car, they have really refined the final year of this style!!! While the interior was made of plastic, I had no rattles, or other issues, this is my 3rd Dodge.

- Good Fuel Economy, Nice dashboard design, Very Stylish, VERY RELIABLE
- A bit bumpy ride, Trans box makes sound on high speed, Minor electrical issues
I have had mine for about 9 months and i am loving it. I drive about an 100 miles a day in city/highway/rural roads and it runs solid. Good fule economy. I have been using sunoco 89 gas and i get 25+ mpg and good engine acceleration. The biggest negative is that this is a relatively lighter car so DONT DRIVE ABOVE 85 MPH. you may loose controle by the slightest wind gust....read morehide
