Fair and Balanced - "Knight Report"

by KnightStream from River Falls, WI (5/02/08)
Pros:MyGig with Navigation, cup holder coolers, Heated seats, uConnect, MoonRoof, Interior LED lighting.
Cons:"Headrests, Headrests, Headrests" - The front headrests bank forward w/ no tilt adjst.

Excellent vehicle overall. The ride is firmer, but with very good acceleration above 4kRPM. Adjusting the steering wheel more vertically "hides" the top 3/4 of the speedometer which is inconvenient. Tends to shift/downshift somewhat hard in lower gears below 2kRPM. Trunk lid opens heavy, but is fairly roomy for a mid-width "sporty" car. Leather trimmed seats will stretch where you sit and eventually crack in the "non" leather seat material (if not treated). Maintains 21-24MPG with shared city/highway driving. Headrests VERY uncomfortable as they angle toward the occupant with no tilt-adjustment - making longer journeys hard on the middle back (unless you lean WAY back) by forcing the driver back-contact to have a gap from the mid-back to a 3" contact surface on the headrest angle.

Excellent choice for a family car

by Squanto from Springfield, Missouri (4/29/08)
Pros:Very comfortable, great gas mileage, lots of room for passengers and cargo
Cons:Engine is a bit loud when climbing hills

I rented an Avenger SXT for 10 days on a business trip and I have to say I am very impressed. I racked up quite a few miles in town, on the open highway and in rural areas on winding roads. This car handles everything with great comfort. It 's quiet, handles great and gets excellent mileage (28-32 mpg). The car is very comfortable with plenty of legroom, headroom and room for passengers. The only complaint I have is the 4 cylinder engine makes a bit of noise when climbing hills. It climbs the hills just fine but you can hear the engine a little more than I would like. You might want to go for the 6 cylinder model if you do a lot of driving in areas with steep hills or at high altitudes. Also, all the controls are easy to use and work well. Gauges are easy to read and the center console and glove compartment will hold a lot of your personal items. Other than the engine noise on hills this is a superb car and a bargain for the list price of less than 20K. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I was in the market for a new car.

Wow! Chrysler does it again.

by Eric from Missouri (4/29/08)
Pros:Beautiful car, handles excellent, fun to drive
Cons:air intake is restricted, mopar needs to offer an upgrade like a cold air intake

I really enjoy driving this car. The 3.5L is a solid engine choice and the six speed autostick transmission allows my wife to pretend she can drive a stick. Seriously, she loves to drive it as well, she does feel "cool" as she says to be seen in the car. It's a really fun car that has been a great addition to a minivan family. This would have been a grat car to add to the SRT line up, so at least how about some small performance upgrades. Othewise, great job Chrysler!

Avenger SXT with Nav. is a hot car to drive!

by Black Beauty Owner from Alexandria, La (4/28/08)
Pros:Great gas milage-especially on interstate and highway
Cons:Headrest is uncomfortable until you get use to it. (And keeping my husband out of it)

This is a great car with features that I could not afford on any other vehicle. The GPS, Mygig, and hands-free features (we never expected to find an afforable vehicle with these while shopping around) are wonderful and I can't see being without them now. We also love the chill bin for our cold drinks (not that anyone is allowed to eat or drink in it)! I love this car!

We average 27 miles to the gallon (in town driving) and about 35 on the interstate. I am very pleased. If you are in Louisiana looking for this car, be sure to see Jeremy at Acadiana Dodge in Lafayette. We drove 2 hours to get this car (the only new Black SXT in the state at the time) and it was well worth it! The service was great and the car is hot!

Best Midsized yet

by Thomas Le Brun from East Meadow, NY (4/04/08)
Pros:Great Looks, free MyGig, Chillzone, MPG, Ride Quality
Cons:Seat softness

This car has one of the smoothest rides amoung its competitors. I can not stress enought that one should go take a look at this car before jumping the gun and buying something else. What you get for the price is incredible. The MyGig is awesome. Get the SXT just for that if nothing else. The seats could be softer, but on the plus side, they are upolstered in Yes Essentials stainless and oderless fabric.

Black Mamba, makes me sing& drive like I'm at Indy

by Susan from Detroit, MI (3/31/08)
Pros:Great on gas. My car rides as smooth as a Caddy and looks as good from the back as a CTS.
Cons:Brakes could be better. Blinker, bright lights and flasher buttons are a pain (see Comments)

I love my Avenger. I purchased 3 last year and paid cash. I have no regrets nor my girls except the brakes could last longer. I drive 140 miles a day/4days a week on one tank of gas. I love it. I can hug a curve at 90MPH with not even the slightest wobble. I dont like where the flasher button is positioned, I always hit it when I am putting things in the compartment under it. The blinkers stay on even after you turn them off or they register right when I am going left. and the bright lights lever is way too sensitive. Everytime you put your blinker on...the slightest push forward will engage the brights. Other than that I love my car and my girls love theirs also.

Awesome sedan!

by Avenger Owner (3/27/08)
Pros:great pep, fuel economy good, nice ride.
Cons:none

I love how this car handles! I actually traded a Jaguar S-Type in for this, and I am glad that I did. The car has great pep, rides smoothly, is quiet, and roomy. I love the MYGiG system, and it works like a charm. I can;t wait to own another Dodge.

I hate the Avenger with a fiery passion

by Tiffany from Tampa, FL (3/26/08)
Pros:Decent fuel economy, roomy interior and trunk, looks cool
Cons:Stalls at stoplights or when turning, blind spots, blinding chrome accents, noisy transmission

I don't even know where to begin with this car! My husband traded in his Jeep to get a car with good fuel economy and we got burned with the Avenger SXT! In a period of 6 months, we had the car in the shop at least 10 times. Every speaker in the car had to be replaced, the radiator blew at 10,000 miles, and it stalled frequently when braking or slowing down to turn in front of traffic. It was frightening to drive or ride in this car. The transmission also shifted so hard that it made you think you just got rear ended. The interior looked cheaply designed and the chrome accents on the gear shift reflected sun directly into your eyes.

The service techs could not recreate the problem and one even said, "It's starts back up, doesn't it?" then implied that stalling was part of normal operation. Even more troubling was the customer service provided by Chrysler Corporation. We filed a last repair attempt request before we filed Lemon Law paperwork. This was denied because they couldn't recreate the problem and we were told that any further requests for service would be denied. We had to file Lemon Law on this clunker and Chrysler finally agreed to buy back the vehicle. The day we returned the vehicle the service manager mentioned that there are a lot of Avengers with this same issue and there is currently no fix.

We will NEVER own another Chrysler product, especially a Dodge. We are very happy to be free of this POS.
