Big value, little problems

by catfan from Beloit, Kansas (7/02/08)
Pros:Nice stereo with Satelite standard, Great Dodge Style, Smooth ride
Cons:CVT Transmission is unproven at best, Popping noises from under hood, poor quality control

Just got this car a week ago and it has been to the shop for repair already. There was no problem during test drive, but with fewer than 100 miles on the odometer we started hearing a "popping" noise from under the hood. Service department thinks it's a motor mount though they admit they can't "see" anything wrong. The hood fits nicely on the driver's side but the passenger side hinge was installed improperly at the factory and sits up about 1/2 an inch higher. This hinge is tack-welded to the body, so it has to be cut off the car, a piece of metal installed and the hinge welded back in. Seriously, Dodge, I though being bought out by Mercedes would improve your overall quality but these small (yet annoying) issues persist.
Having said all that the car is still a fun vehicle to drive and be seen in. The throttle response is a bit slow and there's not much power but fuel economy is on par with a vehicle this size. The styling screams DODGE!!! and that's cool.
Overall we're pleased with the car, just disappointed with the little problems that you would only expect to find on a cheaper car.

love big suv but very nice little car/suv

by Marla from Gardena, Ca. (6/19/08)
Pros:great on gas, nice stereo, seats comfortable. nice smaller extra car
Cons:noisy but just turn up the stereo

I have a Suburban and with the price of gas bought something alittle smaller. Not bad for a small car if I need big I drive the Chevy. First small car I have ever owned not bad for a 4 cylinder. The best part is putting 10 gallons of gas as opposed to 30 gallons.

Awesome Car

by Dfarra from Wuerzburg Germany (6/18/08)
Pros:Wonderful to drive in Germany
Cons:Engine Noise

Love my dodge caliber. I live in Germany and it has the same style and BMW . Always turns heads. Everyone here hasnt seen this car alot before. Having a cooler ipod chack and sunroof really is great. Love the Front Seat fold down feature. Use it when snowboaring in the alps . Also this dodge can keep up on the AutoBahn.

Good car for the money.

by Tony from Miami,FL (6/15/08)
Pros:Surprisingly roomy for it's size.
Cons:Fuel economy could be better 2.0 SXT / CVT automatic.

I Put 17,000 miles on the car this year and I'm still very happy. The 2.0 SXT rides nice and engine runs smooth. Very spacious inside and seating is comfortable. Love the Cirrus satellite radio and sound system isn't bad with mp3 adaptor. I also like the fold down seats. It gives you plenty of room for those trips to the do it yourself store.
MPG could be better, but I find if you drive conservatively, you can pull out a few more miles. I Plan on keeping this one for a long time.

Love it!

by Joni from Michigan (6/13/08)
Pros:After first tank of gas I am getting better than the highway miles listed in the city
Cons:You don't heard the transmission shift gears, I tend to find myself speeding!

I have had my Caliber a little over a week and so far I love it. On my first tank of gas we averaged 30 miles a gallon and only did city driving. When I drove it on the freeway it ran great. I like the muscle car styling and my husband who is 6 feet tall still has a lot of head room. I don't mind the plastic many are complaining about, and I don't find that it has any more road noise than my Stratus did. Also my Stratus had worse blind spots than the Caliber, so far I have not had a problem with blind spots.

Thrilled!

by Jessica from Myrtle Beach, SC (6/13/08)
Pros:Gas Milages, Looks, Stereo...

I traded my Jeep Liberty Limited in on a Dodge Caliber SXT last month. I have to say I am very happy with my decision. The car is a blast to drive. Some times I wish I had a manual trans only because it would make it even more fun to drive! I've read complaints about the plastic on the interior, however for me it was a bonus, I have an 80 lb labrador retriver that I tote around and the fold flat rear seats with the hatch back and all of the plastic makes it perfect for him, there's less upholstry for his hair to stick too and its easier to clean! I have the upgraded upholstry with the two tone and 6 cd changer and absolutely love both! Overall I am thrilled, my past 3 vehicles have been Jeeps, but the gas prices made my decision to go with a 4 cyl car and I don't have any complaints!

I love it and hate it, but I buy it.

by love it and hat it, but I buy it. from Toronto, Ont (6/11/08)
Pros:I love it, Good to save $ on gas, multiple use car!
Cons:I hate it very noise, when up speed to 30-40km the power is losing!

I love the big tire combination, however the engine is very very very nise , when up to 30-40km power losing. When it goes uphill or turns, shows worst and the weakness of the engine, poor performance! worst then a cheap focus or others cheap same level cars.

I hate the engine! but I do love the design! and best I love is with the multiple function with cheap price! and cheap gas. Of course the cheap insurance cost!

coz it has the 5 star rating front and side impact!
Highway is doing well, comfortable and very enjoy!

I have the very complicate feeling about this car, love it and hate it, but I buy it.

by Sal from kISSIMMEE, fl (6/10/08)
Pros:Cant beat price for what you get.
Cons:ROAD NOISE

I had one of the first out. Engine getting a little noisy after 30k. Love the car, has pick up speed after a second of putting foot to the peddle.

I'm finding the city is getting me about 17mpg and the highway about 26mpg

Downsize without sacrifice!

by jack Speer from Harvard IL (6/06/08)
Pros:Fuel economy could be better. The car is a lot more roomier feel inside than it looks on the outside
Cons:Blind spots. Outside styling has an unfriendly look.

Great features: excellent, side air bags, Good engine spunky with manual trans, flat cargo storage, high ground clearence for winter driving, huge interior space. much better than an SUV.
would like roof rack, Dont like rear styling, looks like a federal prison. To many sharp lines.
Great deals available
