Jouney nice but not ideal for young families

by Denise from Nova Scotia (8/21/08)
Pros:Nice appearance, not the feel of a minivan, handles well.
Cons:Access to the back row is awkward at best

We bought the Journey 3 months ago. With 3 kids we were no longer wanting a minivan and wanted a more sporty looking car. The price of the Journey is attractive.

The seats stain very easily- even with just the sweat from a bottle of water so not well designed for a family car. Needed to have them professionally cleaned and proetcted already!

Also, access to the back row is awkward because the seats in the middle row slide ahead- makes it challenging with groceries and kids toys in the floor behind the front seats.

Like that there is rear heat controls (unlike my old van).

Great Value and Stylish appearance

by Vanessa from Marysville, OH (8/16/08)
Pros:Value, size, rear view camera, lots of storage room
Cons:Can get a little uncomfortable seat wise, trunk area is small, dvd screen blocks rear view

We bought this car with a few extra packages on it and the extended lifetime warranty. We got it all for around $28,500 out the dorr. We priced a used 2008 Honda Pilot which priced out over $30,000 for less options. Seats are easy to use and move, and offer plenty of room. We bought this car because we needed a family vehicle and it serves or purposes just fine. (Three kids in car seats.)

Definetly a great value for the money, smooth ride, quiet in the interior. Would recommend to anyone but great for the young family that just doesn't want to join the minivan mafia.

Great vehicle for the money

by David Karbach from San Antonio, Texas (8/14/08)
Pros:Good value for money. Fuel economy is good with 3.5L & 6 spd trans. Great acceleration, too.
Cons:Leg room for third seat is limited.

This is a very well built and designed vehicle! Just bought a new SXT with three rows of seats after driving a rental of same model for 6 days. Got the My-Gig which adds a lot of value, especially with the digital Sat. Radio.
It has a very quiet and smooth ride, even when loaded with seven passengers. The 4-wheel disc brakes make it stop quickly and smoothly. No defects noted with the two vehicles driven. So far, I have averaged better than 20 mpg for combined city and highway. At 70mpg, I averaged 22 mpg for a 200 mile trip, and got 25.5 mpg at 60 mph for a 30 mile trip. Before buying, I did try the 2.4 liter model and found the acceleration was slow, so I chose the 3.5 L, instead.

My Journey with the Journey

by Sandra from Georgia (8/10/08)
Pros:lots of room and storage
Cons:not great gas milegae

I have had mine about 4 mo went on a trip with it was very comfortable like the fronts seat lay flat for rest stops naps. love all the hiding places for things. The floor coolers are ok don't really keep stuff that cold for long ice melts pretty quick maybe ice packs would work better and the cooler up front doesn't keep stuff that cold and only good for small items like a can of soda no big water bottles oh well thats it

Exellent buy for the price and look.

by misswham from Houston, Texas (7/21/08)
Pros:Excellent look and comfort
Cons:POOR GAS MILAGE

I have owned a 2009 Journey for exactly 2 weeks. It is the most affordable and stylish SUV out there. Extremely spacious and has an excellent ride. I had to fill up on the 13th day of ownership and much to my surprise the gas tank holds 20 gallons. Now u add up the cost of a fill up. Out of that 20 gallon tank I got 327 miles out of it. If u divide the 20 gallons into the 327 miles u will get approx. 16 miles to the gallon which is a big drop from what the sticker claims. I drive extremely slow. Take off extremely slow and come to a complete stop slowly. I drive extremely cautiously. It is no excuse for the auto designers not to design these suv's to get at least 25 in the city. All n All no disappointed at all. Also the V-4 engine has horrible pick up so dont try to beat traffic, but once it gets going it flies and can't feel the road.

More Of A Minivan Than A SUV .

by Nancy from Northern Florida (7/05/08)
Pros:Roomy In Front, Smooth Ride, Looks Sporty, Good Sound System
Cons:Not Enough Power, Hard Seats, Ac Not The Best

Very Comfortable Driver/Passenger Side Roomwise. However, After A While The Seats Get Hard. Responsive, But Not Enough Power. Quiet Ride.. Much Too Quiet. Engine Really Reminded Me Of The Small Scooters That Kids Get For Christmas. Feels Much More Like A Minivan.. Really Don't See Why Its Called A Sports Utility Vehicle. The Only Thing Sporty About It Is Its Outside Apperance.

Great Family Vehicle, Will recommend.

by JoeBalls from Queens, NY (6/24/08)
Pros:Comfortable Ride, Very Well Equipped, Engine very responsive Mid Range, Family Loves It
Cons:Chrome Clad wheels instead of full chrome, Position of Radio

I Just Purchased the Deep Blue journey R/T fully loaded exept for the rear dvd. The rear dvd is a pain when the kids are watching it because it is blocking my rearview Mirror. Instead I had my local shop install 2 headrest monitors and Believe me it was a fraction of the price. Looks better too. Otherwise the journey drives great, comfortable, gas mileage ok ( compared to other suv's in the market )
And most of all the family loves it. At the end of the day, everyone is happy...

Gas Mileage, aweful!!!

by Pascal from North Vancouver (6/20/08)
Pros:Good equipments, quiet, style
Cons:Poor gas mileage, floating suspension

Hello everyone,

I bought my Journey a month ago, my first ever American car.
I really love this car, it has lots of equipment, nice looking inside and outside, lots of space, 3rd row seating great with big family.
Only one thing that blow me away, 396km/52liters no way, the 4 cylinder use almost as much than the 6 cylinder, when I bought the car it was definitively for the advertised 11l/7.9l but I think that was really optimistic. If the dealer would say give me the 4 cylinder back and get the 6, I would do so right away, as I said I would buy one again.

Good start by Dodge. A few changes from great.

by Chicago Bob from Chicago, IL (6/17/08)
Pros:Good Looking. Lots of front leg room. American made
Cons:Can't somebody make a good tilt wheel anymore?

I rented this car last weekend. I really thought my next car was going to be the Ford Edge, but this Journey is now making me revisit my decision. I have always been a Ford or Chevy guy. I currently drive an Explorer with 125K miles. The real problem I have is I don't know if I really like this Journey or not. The exterior style is nice and clean. The interior is nice also, but it has that typical Chrysler bland look to it. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I just can't seem to warm up to it. I was extremely impressed with the ride quality and quiet cabin. The only compaints are - can't anyone make a nice acting tilt wheel anymore? GM used to have those nice spring operated tilts you could operate withn a single pull with your left hand. Now all tilts are a cheap plastic handle under the steering wheel which requires using both hands. Sometimes older is better. Also, the instrument cluster looks like something out of a Chrysler "K" car from 20 years ago. Dodge should seriously consider upgrading this ASAP. Sometimes older is not better. One last item, the center armrest between the front seats should be much higher.
