I

by Fernando Guevara from San Isidro de El General, Costa Rica (6/26/08)
Pros:Good fuel economy, very confortable
Cons:Don

I bought my new Nitro (black color) in February 2008 in Costa Rica. It has a diesel engine of 2.8cc. Truly I am satisfied with this vehicle. It has an excellent yield, it is very stable in our highways (that are very bad) and its appearance is impressive. I believe that the inner space is sufficient for our needs.

Awesome!

by BC and CC in Scottsdale from Scottsdale, AZ (6/26/08)
Pros:Everything!
Cons:Can't think of any

Bought this for my wife who was getting intimidated with big trucks and SUV's in her small convertible. Last thing I thought I wanted was an SUV, but this car has surpassed every expectation. I think Consumer Reports has its head where the sun doesn't shine. The appearance is awesome compared to bland other SUVs. Ours has all the options except 4WD and 4ltr/5speed auto. We did test drive one of those and the 4ltr/5spd is smoother, faster, more powerful, etc., but not that much so and an SUV isn't exactly a performance vehicle so went with one with the 3.7ltr/4speed auto because of better mileage. Getting 22MPG overall (18-19 city with AC on) which I am most happy with (big fear when she told me she wanted an SUV). The gadgets and convenience features are all super especially the MyGig, inverter, pull out cargo tray, remote start, sound system, etc., etc.
This vehicle is especially well designed and built. No problems or disappointments. Can't say I agree with the negative comments. There is a lot of plastic, but contemporary design (love the door handles inside and out) and snug fit plus leather make for a nice cabin.
CR should move to Japan for panning this car.

Great car - sucks gas

by Amanda (5/27/08)
Pros:Smooth ride, glides on air, roomy
Cons:Sucks gas

Great car. I love my nitro but with rising fuel cost I'm wondering if I love it enough to keep dish out more money for gas and cut costs elsewhere to afford driving it. Great in snow - glides through rough weather with no problem.

Love the Nitro

by Wayne Spaulding from Franklinton, NC 27525 (5/17/08)
Pros:good looks, good performance, good ride, good fuel economy
Cons:No extended warranty.

I bought a 2007 in April 2008 that had only 2300 miles on it. I thought that maybe something could be wrong with it but with it still fully warranted I took the chance. I couldn't be more satisfied with the vehicle. There was nothing wrong with it. Then I thought that maybe the fuel economy was bad. But to my surprise I get more then the EPA highway and city miles per gallon. In fact the fuel economy (23+ MPG average is the best I have ever got on a 6 cylinder SUV. I am totally satisfied with the vehicle. The only negative is that when the vehicle was new it had a lifetime warranty but lifetime warrantys are not transferrable. Before the lifetime warranty when into effect there was a 7 year/70000 mile warranty that was transferrable. I'm in between warrantys and I think that Dodge should make some sort of adjustment in cases like this.

Great SUV better looking than Honda Element

by Shafton from Southfield,Mi (5/10/08)
Pros:Rides good, Looks are the Bomb, Ram in your face design.
Cons:Have to get use to small tank and MPG

I'm a company man and I buy what I build, this SUV sold me when I 1st saw it. Nice styling and Ram tough looks. Make sure u get the right wheels for this because the bigger rims make this SUV ride a little rougher, so I got the smaller ones. Dealer order basic model but put on an SXT look full body color molding, automatic rides good.
I just have to get use to the smaller tank 19g, use to a Dodge Dakota with a 22g tank, so when driving that neede moves a lot faster.

Great value, great looks, solidly built

by Russ from Phoenix, AZ (4/15/08)
Pros:great value and warranty!!!! good ground clearance and handling, good acceleration
Cons:not the best fuel efficiency, rare glitchy idling with manual trans. where engine slowly revvs

Overall, this is a great vehicle especially for the price! Lifetime powertrain warranty adds peace of mind. Accelerates great, smooth and relatively quiet operation even at fast highway speeds. I've had a rare issue with the engine computer causing the engine to continue revving slowly until about 3K RPM's when I put the 6-speed manual transmission in neutral. But this has only happened a few times in the 6 months I've owned it. Sharp looks, comfortable ride, good handling for an SUV, decent fuel economy (~21MPG with most of my driving freeway speeds).

Great car, great price

by Robert Cladon from Nashville, Tennessee (4/05/08)
Pros:awesome looks, MyGIG is good, U-Connect works great, good acceleration, good fuel economy.
Cons:None

This car truly sets the bar for small SUV's. I recently purchased a Toyota RAV4 for my wife, but it was a lemon and I received my money back. (Just for the record, I will never buy another Toyota again.) We had no idea about the Nitro until passing a Dodge dealership. We stopped, and my wife and I both fell in love with it. The styling is a high point. The looks are rugged, but pleasing to the eye. We took it for a test drive, and we were delighted what we found. The car was both responsive and fun to drive. The steering wheel gives enough feedback for you to know what the tires are doing, and it turns on a dime. The brakes are powerful, and stopped us quickly. The interior is a high point. There is acres of space, all designed in a retro fashion. The U-Connect works well, so you don't even have to take your hands off the wheel to make a call. The seats are comfortable, and the Dodge dealership is both quick and pleasant to work with. Based on our experience with the Nitro, we will definitely buy another Dodge.

better choices out there

by James P from Thunder Bay Ontario (3/27/08)
Pros:exterior/interior styling,
Cons:bouncey on highway, stuttered shift at times, gas mileage

This SUV does not have a smooth ride. From the drivers seat visibility is actually good despite the cut off windows. Does not compare to other SUV in this class
