- Great ride in quiet comfort
I have a 2007 4 door 2 wheel drive and pulled an enclosed Wells Cargo trailer to Colorado in Oct of 2007 for a Bison Hunt. When I did 75 mph, which was the speed limit in wyoming, I got 10 MPG. On the way home, with 1000 pounds of packaged meat in the trailer, I slowed to 65 MPH and got 17.6 MPG.
Since gas has gone through the roof I have been driving like a little old lady. I have found that the accleration is where the most gas is used. So I drive a few under the limit. I live 18 miles from the town where I do business. I have found that if I do my part, the truck will get between 15 and 20 MPG. You just have to drive gently and keep a few miles an hour under the speed limit. The comfort and safety make it worth while.
I was a Police Sergeant for 20 years and just before I retired I saw two accidents in which the people should have been hurt severely. In both cases the injuries were minor or non existant. I really believe that the safety in the primary reason for driving a truck, although I need one living in the country as I do.
My only complaint is that I would be willing to pay extra for side airbags. I will buy another one only if they have the side airbags. If Ford does not have the bags and someone else does, I will, with great pain, purchase another brand. SAFETY AND COMFORT ARE THE ISSUES. The gas mileage is a little better than most. I mean true mileage, not sticker mileage. (Thank you Ford)
I am scared of the other peoples engines that run on less than the full amount of cylinders just to get mileage. I have talked with some that praise it and others that say that the mileage is average. I feel that every "gimick" makes a vehicle more likely to croak when you need it....read morehide
