- Problems with Diesel Engine results in shutdown
Purchased As New
Ford corporate recently told us that we need to test the diesel fuel every time before filling up our 2008 Ford diesel F250. This occurred after contaminants were found in the fuel and we now have up to $12k in damages. The truck has less than 70k miles and this is the second time this has occurred (first at 24k). Truck still under warranty. No abnormal driving, primarily highway and occassional pulling of a 3 horse gooseneck trailer. All scheduled maintenance, including fuel filters, was regularly performed by a Ford Dealer. No warning lights came on before engine shut down. Through postings on diesel forums and leasing associations, we are hearing this is not an uncommon problem....read morehide

- Pros
- Has mannual tranny and not a gurly auto
- Cons
- High gearing saps acceleration, dealers trying to force feed you auto trannies
I've owned my 08 Crew Cab F250 with the 5.4L, 6 speed manual for a little over a year now with zero problems. These things can pull a house. You can load it to max capacity and still not know you have a load on it. Vehicles have come a long way in ride, comfort, and handling. It rides and drives better than my mom's '86 Olds and is more comfortable than my wife's 2005 Chevy Cobalt, but by todays standards, you will still know you are driving a truck. To me, that's a good thing.
Turning around can be a chore as you need an empty 40 acre field to turn this crew cab around. Dealing with dealers who want to tell you what you want is the worst. No wonder Ford is in trouble. If you like to drive, hold out for the manual tranny even if you have to order it. It's clunky the first 5-6 thousand miles, but by about 7 or 8 thousand it's smooth as silk.
Appearance wise, I don't like the upside down looking headlights, but I didn't buy it for its looks....read morehide1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

- 6.4L diesel gets 13 average economy, my 2003 7.3L used to get 17.8
Great truck and a real pleasure to drive. Fuel economy is a huge disapointment. You think they would make the new trucks with better economy than thier predecessors. Truck gets 13 mpg average. I towed a 6 ton trailer with a backhoe back from NJ and averaged 12 mpg. Seems top get same mileage no matter how you drive it. Besides mileage the truck is great, love the ride, the look and the performance....read morehide

- Pros
- Great looking truck, comfort, space, and power.
- Cons
- Fuel economy not so good but then again i'm driving a 10,000 lbs. truck 4x4.
I bought my 2008 Super Duty Crew Cab F-350 diesel 4x4 single axle 2 months ago and my wife and I really love it. My previous truck was a 1992 F-250 non-turbo diesel 2WD Supercrew XLT that i really had a hard time deciding whether i should sell it or not. The 2008 F-350 was a big jump from my other Ford in many ways. One thing was the turbo. The twin turbo kicks in after 1000 rpm and really gets going. I only have 3000 miles on it and i have not run it hard. Half throttle it boost up to 30psi on the gauge WOW. Another thing is the comfort and space. People can sit really comfortably in rear seats which was one of the things we wanted in this truck. I wanted a new vehicle which is nice in and out and still be able to use it for my business. Last millage is not so good but I'm working on getting a chip upgrade that will boost HP and Millage....read morehide

- Cons
- EPA has really messed up the fuel mileage
After looking at GM. There truck are so vanilla. Sure just as
reliable but looks will make the Ford win. features, Tail gate
step should have been opt years ago. Big improvements in the
diesel sound, just as quite as a gas. Pretty good ride for such
a big truck. 2k and no problems yet4 out of 6 people found this review helpful.
