I appreciated Lisa's review and I picked up one yesterday (F350 LB Crew 4x4 Diesel). Of course it is too early to even suggest I know about reliability etc. And most give any car 5 stars as that is why they purchased it. They liked it.
This diesel is quiet for which I appreciate. Noise is a product of poor design IMHO. Idling this thing really sounds just like a basic gas engine and inside you hear no clatter. As a matter of fact I only hear clatter in 1'st gear from a take off and it's about as loud as a gas engine pinging. That's it.
The quality inside and out is excellent. We all hear the buzz phrase " hard plastics" and I'm a nit picker like anyone else but this is just more car mag gobbly gook speak. What I have in my XLT 350 is acceptable in any car and truck. So, I see it as even better than my last Honda purchase as far as quality of materials.
Lisa said the drivers seat was a bit high. I did notice that too but for me it was not an issue. Opening the hood can set you back a bit as it is loaded with high tech features and one guy said it takes a 6 footer to grab the hood to shut it. Well sorry but more like 6"7" as it is that high but you just go to the side to close it and it is held up by gas struts- that is a great feature.
Inside you better do your homework as the truck is feature laden. You really need to study the owners manual. The seats are very comfortable and all controls with the exception of a few are within easy reach.
Few complain about the cost of the diesel. Discounts are near $8K plus and if you look at it this way the diesel is free. My truck was just over $54K and the purchase price was just over $46K.
A bed liner was reasonable at $350 installed and $91 for the better all weather mat's.
And I hear much about a harsh ride. I don't see it . Before I purchased I drove the truck on many back roads and I could not believe how nice it drove and rode unloaded. If you had the 80-90's trucks and even the half tons of that era this is like a Lincoln Town Car. So that complaint is over blown.
I did have a great dealer experience with Lenny, Mark, and Dave at Ramsey Ford in Rising Sun. MD. I only mention this as they are normal guys and really try hard to make the deal easy. Plus a great 2.59% private lender loan.
The negative with trucks is other owners. I bought a Ford because the dealer is 6 miles away and they have 50 plus to choose from. The Dodge and Chevy dealers in my area had one or two. So that is why I bought the Ford and I really don't care about bragging rights. It's childish and I buy what strikes my fancy. So far so...... great!
