I have now had my C-max Energi for about 3 months and I am more than pleased. My driving consists of primarily a 12 mile commute to work, then home, with some 4-10 mile round trips from home to the gym, stores etc. About once a month, I do a 300-350 mile road trip. Much has been written about range. Here is my experience: For my daily 24 mile commute, I can do so all electric, starting with a full battery. I get home with 3-4 miles to spare. Now, this has been in warm weather, with minimal use of the AC. Once the weather turns cold, I fully expect my all electric mileage to drop. Understand that all HVAC runs off the same battery that pushes the car.
So, in the winter, heating the car, and warming up the battery so it functions well, will pull power then not available as miles.
Second, how you drive is very important to how many miles you get. I accelerate slowly, coast a lot and break slowly. The car reports breaking scores, and I am averaging 98%. All of that breaking energy goes back into the battery and extends your range. At this rate, the break pads, which provide the mechanical breaking when you have to slow down faster than regenerative breaking, are hardly being used and may last the life of the car. For each driving cycle, you get a report of how many regenerative miles you achieved.
Fourth, speed is important. My commute is all 35-40 miles per hour (secondary roads). Driving all at 55-70 MPH will reduce total miles. The car can go up to 80 MPH all electric
Now, for my 300-400 mile trips, I am burning gas. I have now done 2 such trips and got 47-49 MPG. That is driving in what is hybrid mode; mostly gas engine, but using the battery as well. Understand that I reset the MPG meter after using up the all electric first 20 or so miles, so this really does represent my gas mileage. Again, most of the trip was 55-60 mph with some 65 mph. At 70-75 mph I expect the mileage would have dropped.
The car is very roomy inside, very quiet. The steering is tight and responsive, and the acceleration is excellent.
The big battery in energi means there is not a lot of space to haul stuff. Since I own a full size SUV as a second car, this was a non-issue for me.
Ford Sync, is functional but needs some work. The blue tooth speaker phone works great with my G3, but sometimes my commands are not understood The HD AM/FM radio sounds great when in HD mode, though if you have a weak station, the HD drifts in and out, and I have not yet found a way to turn it off; a tad annoying.
The Android Ap is great; I can see where the car is, how much charge is in the battery/monitor battery charging. I get an email when the car is fully charged. I can also set a 'go' time. When plugged into the socket, you can set a time and temperature for the cabin, and the car will either pre-warm or pre-cool at the appointed time. Nice feature.
The touch screen is very bright, with lots of different views,
So far, I am doing all my charging with the included 120 volt charger. Have not needed the 240 volt option at home. There is a 240 charger you can get on #$%$***n for under $800 and the feds are offering 30% back as a tax credit. Of course you will need a 240 volt outlet to plug that into, though the electrician's cost to install is also good for 30% back off of your federal taxes.
