drive in mode one (auto) for in town stop and go low speed use. use the third mode (electric later) when you are on the highway. this is a huge issue. if you keep "reserved battery" capacity, then the car is a miracle for fuel mileage going down the highway for longer distances. I routinely see 52 to 60 miles per gallon going down the highway 60 to 100 miles IF AND ONLY IF I keep the battery reserve and use that third driving mode option. In the third "electric later" mode, you will see that the battery capacity does very slowly decrease indicating that the battery is still being used to some degree. You just avoid the computer programming that protects the battery to some minimal level charge. When the computer is not protecting the battery, then the fuel economy is outstanding. If you use up the battery capacity, then the hybrid only driving at 55 mpg yields about 42 miles per gallon which is still good. If you exceed 55 miles per gallon in any mode, then you will see the fuel economy suffer. Other postings and blogs do accurately state that the "Real fuel economy" is around 36 miles per gallon. That is true if you drive longer distances on the highway at speeds above 55 miles per gallon. I love the car. I look forward to buying a Fusion Energi later
