- Solid car. Great handling. Great looking. Great visability.
- Mileage not as expected.
Purchased As New
I set out with the intention of buying a new Ford Escape or equivalent. Ended up with the C-Max Hybrid because of the advertized gas mileage. So far, there have been some disappointments. One is the mileage. You MUST use the egg shell theory to get anywhere near the projected mileage. I have yet to come close unless I REALLY drive extremely careful.
I also experienced a dead battery which needed replacing. Not the lithium batter but the smaller accessories battery.
Another annoyance is the release latch on the rear seat back behind the drivers seat. It's extremely difficult to pull up to release and let that seat back down.
If I had to do it over again I would have gotten my first choice....the Mazda CX5. If I drove that as careful as I've been driving the C-Max I might just get similar highway mileage. But I can't prove that.
I will say though, short distance driving, typical stop and go driving, is where any hybrid gains it's advantage, which is most of the driving I do.
