- Roomy, comfortable, excellent performance
- Needs more tilt in the steering wheel, more front seat storage; nobody makes running boards that fit
Buy a Hybrid Escape for a quick cure for "lead-foot" and "road rage"! NAV system is a bigger challenge and more fun than any computer game you'd ever hope to find. I learned to drive in the muscle cars of the 50's -- I've adjusted. It's important to watch that tach -- 1500rpm is ideal for fuel economy and anything over 2500 begins to eat gas. The trick is eye-foot coordination and a light, light touch on the accelerator. Give it a bit longer to build speed and you can cruise at 55mph at 1500 rpm. I'm a flat-lander living on the eastern Illinois prairie. My 2006 FWD Ford Hybrid Escape is 2.5 months old and gets on: my 46 mi. commute, 2-lane hwy. and country roads - 40.5-41.5mpg; my ordinary road trips, flat land, some hills, two-lanes - 36-39mpg; in the winding roads and hills of southern Indiana two-lanes - 32-34mpg; interstate from home through Missouri to Oklahoma - 31-32mpg. It's good for the environment and it's made in America! It's my small, personal move to get even with Enron and stick it to OPEC. They don't like us anyway.
