- Fuel economy, interior room, driving position, convenience elect outlet, American made
- Gas mileage suffers with A/C or Heater in use, no standard trailer hitch option
Purchased As New
I bought this vehicle in May of 2008, and I've been happy with its performance overall. One thing I have noticed is that with the A/C or heater in use the fuel economy definitely suffers. Of course, that's true of every car. However, it's still a bit of an annoyance to see one's gas mileage consistently fall below 30 mpg for half the year just because you want some cool or warm air.
The engine is surprisingly peppy for a 4 cylinder. Acceleration isn't a problem.
As for the lack of a trailer hitch, I don't expect to really be towing a bunch of stuff with a 4 cylinder, but it would have been a nice standard feature for a bike rack or a small load.
Sometimes when you haul messy things, you don't want to dirty the cargo area carpet. However, when you pull the carpet up in the rear cargo area, it uncovers the battery. There's no floor or rubberized surface on which to place cargo without resting them directly on the battery. So invest in a tarp or other cover for the back....read morehide

- Economy, navigation, CVT, comfort
- Tiny spare, no hitch possible (even for bike rack), no passenger stability handle, lack of colors.
I love the vehicle, but mine seems to have a predictable squeak sound when gas engine is running. It sounds like a clutch kicking in/out. It makes the sound whether the AC is running or not, but NEVER while the brakes are applied. Dealership has no clue.

- I get 35 mpg per gal and it has great acceleration on highways
This is a great value for the money, plenty of interior room and great
handling on the road.

- Great fuel ecomony. Quality vehicle.
I have owend this vehicle for more than a year. My gas mileage is actually above the EPA estimate. It has only required the regularly scheduled maintaince. The quality is wonderful.
It is very comfortable. The rear seat is a full size seat, which folds flat when extra room is required.
From the buying experience at the dealer to the owning experience thus far I AM QUITE PLEASED!!!!!!!!...read morehide

- It gets great MPG for an SUV (38mpg!!!!). It's solid and fun to drive!
- no complaints
I love this car!! I traded my BMW X5 for this car last year and I am so glad I did. It's comfortable, drives great and has lots of space in the back and the MPG is awesome (38!!!) . Also....don't forget about the IRS rebate for hybrid cars. I got $4000 back at tax time. The dealer pretended he knew nothing about it.......they just wanted to unload all the regular SUV's....read morehide

- Great fuel economy. Comfortable, looks good
- cheap looking dash. Not a lot of console stoage.
Perfect everyday driver. I have even hauled a cord of wood in it after putting down the back seats. I get 34 to the gallon and about 500 miles on a tank. Fill up once a month. Just the console looks cheasy and the built in nav system sometimes spontaneasly resets.

- mileage, ride, handling--you name it!!
- mileage sinks in the winter but, hey, you can't have everything.
I agree with several of the comments relating to the Escape Hybrid, and write only to add that my 2007 Escape Hybrid is the best vehicle I've ever owned in 30 + years of driving.
I live in Western MA and in the sumer get between 34-35 mpg. That, together with the ability to haul skis, bikes, and lots of stuff makes this SUV a winner. I can't understand why Ford doesn't divert production capacity so that these can be turned out quickly.
Hybrids are not the final answer to our transportation needs, but they are surely a large step ahead of what most Americans are driving now.

- Excellent driving vehicle, good feel.
- Satellite Radio not worth the extra monthly charges
As price of gas goes up, this decision keeps looking better and better. And I keep liking this vehicle more and more. Having a hybrid changes your relationship with driving as you try to get your engine to shut off and your RPMs to go down and see your fuel economy go up. Beyond the fuel economy, this is an excellent riding, well made vehicle. I have had one minor issue the dealer took care of, but I expect this vehicle to be with me a long time. As I see they are getting hard to get, I am SO HAPPY I got mine when I did. Keep trying, they are worth the wait. The biggest surprise is how much heat and A/C affect fuel economy. Favorite part is driving past the sidewalk cafes in my town and not spewing exhaust....read morehide

- Fuel economy, navigation system, satellite radio and ambient lighting
- Interior buttons are small, could use wood trim instead of silver, waiting for vehicle
We just got delivery of our FWD Escape hybrid about 10 days ago. We ordered the vehicle in Februady and waited 3 months. We decided to go green when as was just $2.60/gallon. Boy, did we make a good call. If you get this vehicle, get the navigation system. i know its expensive, but it has a screen that shows you instant MPG, MPG over the last 15 minutes and also calculates MPG for you. We are getting almost 31mpg now....a big improvement from our Explorer (15mpg). I love the satellite radio...I have one in my other car. The ambient lighting is cool too....you can change color from red to blue to white....there are 7 colors. If you put water bottles in the cupholders, it looks really cool at night. I'm not a big fan of the silver, I would have liked the black or wood grain. Also you could not get a video system in the vehicle....the kids loved it in the Explorer.
With gas prices about $4 now, I almost feel guilty not filling up every few days....read morehide

- Handsome appearance, fuel efficient, great cargo space, very solid build. No problems in 50k miles.
- Not cheap. Winter mileage is about 15% worse than summer mileage.
I love my car. Ford should do everything it can to build WAY more of these! My hybrid Escape is a 2006, which I bought new. I'm about to conclude two years of problem-free driving, logging over 50,000 miles.
Mileage in the summer, driving slowly on the freeway, is around 31-33 mpg, 32-34 in the city. Driving on the freeway in a hurry, mileage drops to around 29 mpg. Mileage in the winter (in CT) is not as good, because the main battery is not as efficient in cold weather.
Very solid trim and construction - no rattles or other unwanted noise. Engine is quiet, and to start the thing you simply flick the key, for about a quarter the time it takes to start a standard gasoline model. Starting is flawless, in any weather.
Road performance is better than you might think. It can move when you kick it - passing on the freeway or merging into crowded traffic, but you just feel so guilty, watching the dashboard readout on average gas mileage plummet, that you quickly revert to driving gently (which will only prolong the life of the engine and use less gas).
If gas isn't up to $15 a gallon by the time this thing konks out, I might just buy another one....read morehide
